I've always liked the bay area backroads show because they find some really unique and interesting places that I would never have known about on my own. This deck contains none of them. It is more of a list of national parks in Northern California. There is nothing unique about the destinations given, and more often then not I found that the cards I looked at were places that I have already visited... in some cases on a regular basis.I had hoped that by purchasing this I would be able to just grab a random card and take off on some crazy Saturday adventure. I'm rather dissapointed.

I love watching the Bay Area Backroads TV show. I thought the card deck would be as advertised, toss in your glove compartment and off you go!There are lots of cards of individual landmarks to visit and one fold out card with a very simple map, but you will still need a real map, lodging book and a restaurant guide to make a nice trip out of any one of the destination cards. I think I will stick to cutting the weekend trip guides out of Sunset and Via magazines. I was dissapointed with the card set.

I gave this as a gift to my boyfriend (who was not from CA) at the time. Being from the Bay Area, I wanted to give him something that would help us explore the area together. It has great ideas and just the appropriate amount of information and inspiration! Highly recommend it for someone who's recently relocated or visiting the Bay Area.

You would think the information does not change that quickly or maybe I am internet spoiled. This deck is OK but not current and does not reach into the detail needed to plan a trip.

Bought this book as a gift for my father who loves driving around in the Bay ARea. It is wonderful for learning about new places and discovering things along the way

I thought this was a book until I received it in the mail. It's 50 "playing cards"; stiff paper looseleaf cards. I would have preferred a book and will have to be more careful next time I purchase from Amazon.com.

I can't even begin to address the power of this book. I also purchased Dr Tony Evans book for Married Men Only. The two books go hand in hand (no pun intended). I was 2 weeks from finalizing my divorce with my wife, NO JOKE. The combination of the truth that I was able to pull from these two books really helped set me in a different mind set. If you are struggling in your marriage with your wife, these books are fantastic for the man to work on his end. if you have a wonderful marriage already, I don't see how reading these books won't help you have an even more amazing relationship. Oh and these books finally answer the age old statement that most of us have absolutely no idea what it means... to love your wife as Jesus Loves the church. The understanding you will get from that statement will set your marriage on a whole new level. I intend on reading and re-reading these books for years to come. I am so thankful to have heard about these books on Christian radio in my car. The timing was impeccable... as God's timing always is! Oh and you should know that a week later, after reaching back out to my wife, I called my attorney and cancelled my divorce proceedings and began working my building up my marriage.

Another fantastic book by Dr. Evans! After a heart wrenching infidelity issue, I was at my bitter end. I had sunk into a deep depression and felt nowhere to turn. Church was helpful but couldn't cure my hurt and bitterness completely. Tony's books Kingdom Woman and Kingdom Marriage have opened my eyes and for the first time in over 9 months I feel love for my husband and ready to start anew. This book probably saved my marriage and myself. Thank you Dr. Evans for being the voice I needed to hear and the rationalization that not only makes sense but goes directly to my heart! I can't wait to read more of his books! ❤️

As a newlywed, I seek to learn as much as I can from those who have gone before me. This book provided me with more wisdom. It is not just for newlyweds, but for anyone who seeks to do marriage under the Lord's authority. When we stay close to Him, our marriages will thrive.

If you know Dr. Evans... enough said. If you want to get your marriage right...meaning getting you right and aligned with His word, this is a MUST HAVE!

I'm almost done reading this book. It is an eye opener in how we need to live our life and treat our spouse. It's an easy read, and I've gained some really good insight with this book and hope to do this as a small group study.

Excellent book. This book was recommended by a friend anf I really love it. It gives you a better idea of how a Godly and lasting marriage should work out. My favorite part is that it quotes the bible in relation to what it says. Tony Evans is awesome at relaying messages about becoming a better Christian. I would recommened this book to even single people. It gives you the idea of what to look for in a relationship so while dating you will make better choices on who to marry.

We've tried counseling and many other things but this was the book that TRULY made a difference. It helps you to focus on your own shortcomings (not your spouse's) and seek God to change them. Until you are willing to point the finger at yourself and accept what you need to change, you will not see a difference.

Tony hits a home run with this book. My wife and I have re-aligned our roles in marriage because of this insightful read! Biblical advice that transcends worldly advice to be selfish and only care about my happiness. This book will save many marriages!!

Michael Battle, a theologian and a former protégé of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, explores the fascinating African concept of Ubuntu and its adaptation by Archbishop Tutu in the anti-apartheid movement. In this book, Battle delineates how he believes it can be a "gift to the West."Ubuntu is a difficult word to translate. It is a simple yet incredibly profound concept - that I am a person because I recognize others as persons, that we are all inextricably linked to one another and share a common humanity. Although it may ostensibly appear that there is some dissonance between Ubuntu and Western individualism, Battle argues that Ubuntu, which demands interdependence, paradoxically helps us express true individuality because "each individual's humanity is ideally expressed in relationship with others."So why is Ubuntu important? Battle argues that it "reorients our vision." He writes, "[w]e cannot see ourselves as primarily white people, black people, Irish people, women, men, low income, gay, conservative...we must learn to see self in the other." The paradigm of excessive narcissism, which appears pervasive in the West, is broken by Ubuntu. Ubuntu helps us see our own flaws and not merely the flaws of others. To substantiate these arguments, Battle retells Tutu's struggle against apartheid ("South Africa - black and white - can be human together and will defy tyranny only by first living together").Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend Battle's book, but I should warn readers that it does come with one caveat: strong Anglo-Christian undertones. Although I myself am an Episcopalian, I found this to be a slight distraction. Readers who want to read a more secular and academic assessment of Ubuntu should read Battle's other book, Reconciliation: The Ubuntu Theology of Desmond Tutu.

This is my favorite series so far ! Liv has to embrace her magic as she trains to be a magician Warrier. Her relationship with her magical cat Plato and her giant friend Rory are a lot to read and root for as Rory begins training Liv to embrace her magic and become a magician Warrior. This new series is delightful with its quick humor, fast action, intrigue and adventure. It rivals the Harry Potter series! I loved it and can't wait for the next book in this awesome series!

I have enough drama in my real life so when I pick up a book to read, I want to be entertained and happy. Liv Beaufont is definitely entertaining and snarky. I'd love to go partying with her. She doesn't want anything to do with magic, but in order to keep her family's legacy alive, she must accept her magic and take her place working for the Council, enforcing laws that she doesn't believe in. With a lot of humor, and a magical Lynx, Liv shows that she can handle whatever life throws at her.

There are so many things to love about this book: a smart mouthed noncomforming witch, a giant with a heart of gold and a sarcastic cat. Lynx. Whatever! Our intrepid crew is out to solve mysteries and save magic from those who would pretend to be doing the same. I look forward to book 2!

Liv does her job well. Instead of reacting as others that have been indoctrinated about the relationship between magic, magicians, and the Council, she tries to dig around to find the truth and find justice, not blindly obey law. I hope to see a lot more of our rebellious one!

I was into this story from when I read the first two teaser chapters, and finished the poor thing in one sitting. I really wish, that book two was already out, or at least, coming out slightly sooner...

This is a great new series of a rebellious magician and for her quest for the truth of her parents and older brother and sisters death while protecting the remaining family she has left.

I can identify with our snarky heroine’s pushback against the Council with their blind adherence to convention and her interest in compassionate justice. It will be interesting to see where this goes. The writing is breezy, the characters interesting and the apparent villains appropriately vile.

She lies incessantly to make magic and the implausible seem normal. She has a righteous moral code that constantly gets her in deadly trouble. An enjoyable yarn!

Judge Posner's "Reflections" is a readable and witty overview of the challenges facing the judiciary and legal profession in a time of increasingly complex cases.Judge Posner invites lawyers and judges to tackle the increased complexity of the law in at least three ways. First, he urges lawyers and judges to use pictures and simplify their briefs and opinions. For example, he writes that "seeing a case makes it come alive to judges," yet "[l]awyers' lack of a visual sense . . . is a striking professional deformity. I do not understand it. Information can often be presented more efficiently in pictorial than verbal form." He also tells lawyers and judges to use "coloring book" facts, such as stories or other background material (even if outside the record) to help the reader understand "the technological or commercial setting of a case."Second, despite his reputation as a legal theorist, Judge Posner has practical tips to improve jury trials based on his experiences from serving as a trial judge. Among other things, he advocates time limits on trials and recommends that judges use more frequently their power to appoint neutral experts.Third, Judge Posner presents his "Posner model" of avoiding excessive reliance on junior lawyers or clerks preparing briefs and opinions. He correctly observes that the growth of associates in law firms and law clerks in the federal courts has contributed to the unnecessary lengthening of briefs and opinions. He goes as far as to present an opinion from a federal appeals court that takes up several pages of text and compares his version, which takes a little more than a page. The difference is striking.In short, Judge Posner's "Reflections" should help lawyers and judges to argue and rule more effectively and with more style and more professional satisfaction. Hopefully, in the process, this will improve the public's confidence in the judicial system.

It is easy to see from this book why Judge Posner has become the most frequently cited legal commentator. His range of interests is immense, ranging from law and economics, to national security issues, to the 2000 election, and various jurisprudential topics. Recently, he has focused on his colleagues, federal judges, in several books. This book continues that interest. It is diverse in topics and approaches; but always informative and stimulating.First, to illustrate how one can be selected for the federal judiciary, he devotes the introductory chapter to a brief autobiography. He is particularly interested in suggesting issues that new judges should consider as they ascend the bench. He also introduces one of his major concerns: increasing technical "complexity" that faces judges as they adjudicate challenging cases.To fill in background, Posner next discusses the evolution of the federal judiciary. He raises here several of his fundamental concerns: excessive growth of staff; should law clerks on the appellate level be assigned initial drafting responsibility for opinions (a vehement no!); and the adoption of basic managerial tools to structure judicial caseloads.A third chapter is devoted to his key concern of "complexity." I found this very long chapter not to be particularly effective. He does a better and shorter job on this in his Introduction to the book. One important point that does emerge is that courts may generate their own complexity by deciding cases in a "formalistic" way rather than employing a realistic approach. This reflects Posner's recent shift toward pragmatism in his writings. He develops this theme in depth in his chapter four. Basically instead of conventional legal analysis, Posner wants judges to employ more practical sense and concern about the consequences of their decisions. I think this is one of his most crucial points and this chapter bears careful reading.Posner argues that appellate records are often insufficient. Surprisingly, to me at least, he advocates that appellate judges freely utilize Google research to fill out inadequate factual records. More use should be made of maps and pictures in opinions to help clarify decisions. Counsel who argue appellate cases should find this chapter of particular interest.A most interesting chapter is on "coping strategies." These are techniques appellate judges can use to avoid resolving complexities they face in cases. Judicial self-restraint comes in for a challenging working over by Posner. A particularly rich chapter discusses the very concept of interpretation. His target here is (not for the first time) Justice Scalia's originalism, as discussed in depth in his book (co-authored with Brian Gardner) "Reading Law." By the time his extensive analysis is concluded, its brutal efficiency leaves little of the Scalia approach still standing. This is as fine an example of masterful legal analysis as I have seen. Given all the fussing over how to interpret statutes and the Constitution, this chapter makes a significant contribution to bringing some clarity to this debate.Several more chapters are directed at the appellate process. Tips on opinion writing and appellate advocacy comprise chapter 8. In the next chapter, Posner recounts why he recommends that appellate judges without trial experience spend some time presiding (as they may) over district court trials. Chapter 10 discusses additional recommendations to improve the appellate process. A conclusion raps it all up.So, Posner covers a large amount of ground in 370 pages. This is one of those books where reading the footnotes (which are actually footnotes) is essential. Sometimes the judge does go on a bit too long in making a point (witness the complexity chapter); but if this is "fat" I am all for it. One of the most stimulating books one can read on the federal appellate judiciary, which what with the recent filibuster modifications, is as always heating up as an issue.
