One of my favorite cookbooks of all times, and one of the first I ever owned. I think this is the fifth one of these I've bought, because the others finally fell apart. There are recipes that may seem a bit dated, but there are classics that stand the test of time, as well. I particularly recommend the flank steak, the homemade mayonnaise (to which I add a few garlic cloves), and the green goddess dressing.Bon appetit!

Long before the Food Channel, my wife and i survived on the Sunset Book of Favorite Recipes. These were easy to learn for novice cooks. The book has a succinct index, an easy to use recipe format and cooking instructions with each item and is well organized. There must be thousands of these books floating around unfortunately they are all not the same though titled the same. Track one down be prepared for 35-50 year old soft covers. The pages can come loose so I patch them in with magic tape And hold the book together with those big black office clips (by ACCO). I still refer to it often because it is the quickest book in the kitchen to get information. Unless it is on the Kindle, then use that or use a computer. The later often has too many choices. I was given a copy of this cookbook as a wedding shower gift, 38 years ago, and have never been disappointed in anything I made following the recipes in it. I am happy to have a newer copy, but I'll keep my old one for our cabin. I will always need these recipes!

This was to replace my long-time falling-apart cookbook, out of print now apparently and later editions have different recipes. I was very pleasantly surprised at the condition of the book, looked like it had never been read. Terrific value at $3.95. I have sent copies to my daughters-in-law too.

This is my most used recipe book. Not always easy recipes but I have never been disappointed. I most often make the Monkey Bread, Pinnaple-Carrot cake, Cinnamon sour cream coffee cake, and a couple of the stew beef recipes. My original copy is old and tattered and unbound now, in a folder on my recipe book shelf. I am shopping for a copy now that has my missing page 67-68 (Sun River Bannana Bread). This is a Favorite recipe book. Happy eating!

I was extremely happy to get this book in such good condition. I've had my old one since the 1970"s and literally pages were coming loose and all my favorites pages were etched in grease and all the earmarks of my favorites. I have been scanning all the local thrift stores for the past five years before seeing it on Amazon and was so excited!! It truly is my favorite cookbook and I have many.

Received this book and it replaced one I had many years ago. Worn but was happy to find some priceless recipes again. Will order from them again.

I spend a lot of time listening to audiobooks in my truck throughout the day. I'm disappointed the audio CD is marketed as unabridged when in fact on the box it says abridged. It's only 4 hours 47 minutes long. The book is well over 300 pages. How much is deleted? I feel it's like watching a movie on network TV with all the commercials, editing and parts cut to fit time slot compared to seeing the movie on HBO. Story was good but I personally feel cheated.

This is an action packed novel and a thriller. There were times while reading it I could not believe it was a novel. As I read I became to know the Seal team members' families. I became so engrossed. I have read other Seal books so while reading I thought this was an operation by Seals on deployment. It had to have been a planned operation. I followed them every step of the way from Central America to Somalia, to the coast of Russia and finally to Mexico The book is so well written. I could not put it down. If you like action thrillers and mysteries read it. I loved it.

I'd been reading about Act of Valor for months.Since I'm a former Special Ops Plans Officer, I was very interested.I learned about the book in an article by Dick Couch published in Naval History Magazine, February 2012 (Volume 26, Number 1).Captain Couch, USN(Retired), was the highest ranking reserve SEAL at the time of his retirement. He is one of the preeminent SOF historians.Since I've read all of Dick Couch's book, I had to get this one. He adds background and detail to the movie.BTW - I saw the movie on Sunday and enjoyed it greatly. Most authentic since Blackhawk Down.

Gives a lot of insight into what the life of a seal might be like. Probably the greatest warriors ever to be on this planet. Thank God they are there to protect us.

We finally, after 10 years, have specific insight into a preeminent aspect of what has kept America safe since 9/11. Although fiction, each of the vignettes in Act of Valor is based on an actual operation and accurately depicts the tactics, equipment, intelligence and communications that allows America to bring appropriate force, sometimes incredible force, to any point on the planet. Additionally, this book accurately characterizes the operators that have total focus on the mission, but are also family men with wives and small children who also make amazing sacrifices to keep America safe, making do without their father's guidance and their husband's love for extended periods of time. The threat that their men may not return is a fear that the families must live with daily. Their loved one is literally on the tip of the spear. At the end of the movie there is a very powerful credit, listing all the SEAL operators who have lost their lives in the line of duty, keeping us safe, since 9/11.A must read for all Americans! George Orwell's quote, "We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm." has never been more true!!kwelch

First impressions are important. Surely former SEAL Dick Couch knows that modern HALO rigs don't have front mounted, attachable reserve chutes. Yet right there on page one he's got a jumpmaster lifting one during a prejump inspection. And on page 240--- certainly both authors (a SEAL and a helo pilot) know that a Knighthawk has wheels instead of skids. But otherwise I thought the book was great. And I'm glad I read it before I saw the movie. The movie was much easier to follow with the book in my memory bank. And I'm glad the movie had the "rubber duck" jump/boat SEAL delivery to the sub instead of the helo winch in the book. I imagine that the Somali pirate jump was the reason for that change. All in all,I'm glad I have the book in my library.

I like to rate the books I read on how difficult it is to put it down once you start reading. This one got high marks. The action throughout this book is awesome. I won't go into the plot as I'm sure other reviews already have, but the plot of this book is very realistic and the characters more real than most novels. Been a long time since I picked up a Clancy book written by someone else, having been burned before with a crap book. This one, however definately is worth the extra coin. I also read 2 other books called Seal Team Six 1 and 2, which are also very good, but not quite as good as this one.

So often in our daily routine, we forget that someone somewhere paid the ultimate price for our freedom. It's been said many times before that FREEDOM ISN'T FREE! We have an obligation to our fallen heroes to see that their loved ones are properly taken care of so that there isn't anytime where these families feel as if their loved ones have been forgotten.This book tells a story about our heroes and does an honorable job convying how these heroes go about doing what we take for granted, protecting America at all cost.God bless our military, God bless America.
