Excellent book! Every Celiac should have it. Also some with other diseases that keep giving you trouble. This helps you learn how other diseases go in tandem with Celiac. I denied having Celiac because we were focuse on my EPI (Exocrine Pancreatitis Insuffiiciency) which was excruciating but kept happening. It was only when we discovered the celiac from a biopsy, were we able to control the EPI which goes in tandem quite a bit as do some other conditions. Now that I am treating the Celia, which is hidden but triggers other diseases, the other issues seem to be subsiding. Time will tell, so I am still being careful, but it is loaded with crucial information.

I purchased this book after being diagnosed with Celiac disease because I was feeling overwhelmed by all the information on the internet about Celiac and I wanted some helpful everyday information and tips on how to live in the real world with Celiac. This book was exactly what I had hoped it would be. I now have a game plan for what I will do when I travel to see family for Christmas and what to do about eating over at other peoples houses. It is not easy trying to explain to people why you cannot eat their home cooked meal, and this book helps give you some insight as to how to cope with such real life situations. I recommend this book for anyone newly or not so newly diagnosed with Celiac Disease. The author explains things in a very accessible way, especially for people who don't have a medical background.

Excellent book! I was diagnosed 9 mos ago with Celiac Dz and this has been my "bible" when it comes to getting my many questions answered. Unfortunately, I am one of the less than 10% of people with Celiac who happens to be affected with Dermatitis Herpatiformis and before I could get to the dermatologist, I had it pretty well diagnosed thru info this book contains. You will find out more about Celiac Disease by purchasing and reading this reliable, fact-filled book than you can ever imagine! Yes, I highly recommend this book to anyone with the disease or anyone who wants to find out more about this autoimmune disorder.

Really great look into Celiac disease and the most up-to-date science. This book helped me understand the underlying physiology of the disease, which is invaluable. The last chapters in the book about lifestyle changes and tips were less compelling, but helpful for folks who are just diving in to living gluten free. If you have Celiac, or may have Celiac, or have family with it, I highly recommend this book as a resource.

This book has be so helpful as a newly diagnosed celiac. Dr. Greed is such an expert, but the information isn't that difficult to understand overall. I had read the previous edition from my local library, but was happy to see this updated one available. This book goes over celiac from the bottom to the top so for those of us that are knowledge junkies:) to know more than we can get any other way.

This book was an invaluable tool for my Bali trip recently. I read the book cover to cover in two nights prior to heading to Bali. I had heard the taxi drivers can quote a price and then once you are at your destination, that quoted price can change significantly. I used the guide, Gede Lausen, Gundi recommended in this book. Gede Lausen was great. He was punctual, actually arrived at hotel about 15 minutes early each day we toured with him. He is very knowledgeable about the area. Gede Lausen was polite, courteous, and showed us things we would have never seen on our own. Highly, highly recommend contacting Gede Lausen if you plan on visiting Bali. I found him through facebook and private messaged the arrangements. Everything Gundi recommended to see is well worth it and those sites touted as somewhat lacking were verified through friends that went to those sites when we split up and went our separate ways a couple of days. Thank you Gundi. You made a great trip even better.

The author has put together a very thoughtful and accessible travel guide for a lesser-known, but no less amazing part of Bali. While Bali is known for its beaches, this book take us away from the loud, tourist-filled beaches and carries us to the quieter and spiritual parts of the island where one can really experience the culture and people. It is clear that she has spent time in these areas and has done some thorough research, which she thankfully shares with us here. She presents the itinerary from the perspective of driving to each location, so if you plan to drive, this would be very helpful. I have been to the beaches in southern Bali, but after reading this book I very much want to return to the island to visit Ubud and the other areas Ms. Gabrielle discusses in her book. I am an avid traveler and use many different types of travel books and websites when I travel. I would definitely use this book as a resource for planning my next trip to Bali!This book includes helpful information for planning your trip to Bali, including maps, history, cultural and language tips, accommodation, transportation, weather, visa information and much more. The author includes descriptions of various sights and activities, as well as her opinion, suggestions and helpful tips about what to see and what to avoid. She provides brief but thoughtful reviews of various sights, restaurants and hotels, including helpful details like how to get there, travel time and even what to order! She has included lots of very nice photos as well, which is very helpful when planning your itinerary.What I really like about this book is that it is very easy to read, yet extremely informative. Her writing style is very relaxed and friendly, even humorous at times, which makes the book enjoyable to read. I also love that she takes us off the beaten path and introduces us to some incredible places that we otherwise might not be inclined to visit.This book does not include addresses, phone numbers, websites or hours of operation, so you would have to use other resources if you need this information. All in all, this is an excellent and informative book that introduces us to new and wonderful sights in Bali and helps make it simple to visit these areas with a solid plan and itinerary.

Short book, easy read, and a great way to begin learning about Bali. This book helped me understand the layout of the island, what makes each region special, and gave me the perfect starting point for making travel plans. This is a very good choice if you don't know where to start in planning a visit to Bali, have limited time to read, and do not need detailed, step-by-step, city guides. Appreciate the insight of a solo traveler.

Beautifully written, packed with practical tips on where to stay, how to get there, and detailed tips on best places to eat, wifi reception, how to get good tour guides and descriptions of best places to visit other than the common tourist destinations. All from the point of view from an experienced traveler! You feel like you have been there :)

I love this book and have tried many recipes from it and so far, I can say that it's worth the money. However, be sure to leave room for modification of measurements and methods as some are off slightly to make the food either more difficult to prepare or be underdone or overdone. For example, the recipe for Scotch Egg, I would recommend dipping each hard-boiled egg into the egg batter THEN dusting with flour before rolling on the sausage, which is opposite of what the book recommends. The reason is that the sausage adheres to the flour and the flour adheres to the egg batter. If you dust first and then dip in the egg batter, you will have a hard time making the sausage stick. Then dip the egg/sausage into the egg batter once more before rolling it in the breadcrumbs. Also, I would quick fry in the oil and then bake rather than fry as the sole method or your egg might be burned on the outside but underdone on the inside. It's still a yummy recipe but I had to work it out myself to get it just right. On the other side of the equation, the tidbits and folklore are lots of fun so this book still earns 5 stars from me.

This being said, I found the discussions on Wicca as enriching as the tales and the food, and I learned to appreciate the Wiccan culture which provided us with mistletoe in Advent and Christmas and the hot cross bun on Good Friday. As an American of Irish ancestry, I was fascinated with the Irish tales that accompany many of the recipes, some of which produced in me laughs as hearty as a good bowl of stew.I found the recipes being grouped according to the Wiccan seasons helpful because it seems as if the Wiccans have a great respect for the earth and for agriculture; from Asala's perspective, food that may be appropriate Pentecost in May or June may not be so at around the time Christmas is celebrated and vice versa.From a health perspective, many doctors, including my friend Arlene Alexander, M.D., the sister-in-law of InterVarsity's founder John Alexander, and Neal Barnard, M.D. have considered oatmeal very beneficial to one's heart, yet even when I was vacationing in Ireland, I have avoided oatmeal simply because I do not like sweet things for breakfast, or have considered oatmeal boring. Asala's BrotchanFoltchep (Leek and Oatmeal Soup) has completely transformed the way I look at oatmeal. In keeping with Barnard's teachings against mammal products, I find this recipe easily modifiable by substituting mushroom broth for the whole milk or beef stock mentioned, and olive oil for the melted butter, even though olive oil may not have been readily accessible in Ireland prior to 1500.This is an excellent feast for the body, mind, and spirit - and not just for St. Patrick's Day!

Very cool cookbook, I actually bought it for a friend for his birthday, he absolutely loved it, he is a huge fan of Celtic folklore and he told me this cookbook is very accurate in it's portrayal of the culture, no phony stuff here! I was also really pleased to find out it actually has a pretty decent selection of vegiterian recipies in it so I utilize it quite a bit myself! So far everything I've made or he's made from this cookbook has been a hit!

There are more stories and poems of Celtic culture in this cookbook than there are recipes, but that only makes it more entertaining. If you enjoy folklore, especially food related, then this is a great cookbook for you. The recipes are traditional and I like that the author gives details about the lore surrounding each recipe and the holidays that each is associated with.

My ex had this cookbook and I'm ecstatic that I've been able to purchase it for myself. While it's not a print version, I'm ok with that. The Kindle version was only $1.99 on sale! I couldn't pass it up! The recipes are wonderfully yummy. But the recipes aren't they only part of this that makes it so neat. There are little things throughout that make this book a gem: poetry, tales, random snippets of wisdom, all of these and more lift this cookbook above and beyond other similar books.A few other things I like about this particular cookbook:-The index is not only arranged by ingredient, but also by occasion.-The glossary includes terms not only used in cooking, but also used in Pagan beliefs as well as a few celtic language phrases-A list of bibliography, sources where the author of this cookbook obtained her information for poetry, tales, etc., not only listed for purposes of works cited, but also as a suggested reading list for your own research and informational purposes.

I received this book just prior to a Lughnasadh celebration with other members of a Celtic cultural organization called An Ceangal Mara (The Linking Seas, to symbolize the linking of the Celtic minds in the Old World to those of us in the New World). I used the recipe for Citrus Curd, combined it with an oat-based shortbread crust and topped it with a compote of seasonal fruits. It made a wonderful dessert for out celebration. I love the bits of folklore, stories and poetry in this work, as well as the connections of each recipe with the important events in the wheel of the year. Food is such a vital part of any culture, and it is a lovely thing to be able to count on the historic linking of the food and recipe to the holiday. Our next celebration will be the Celtic New Year, and I will again turn to this book for inspiration and guidance in my culinary efforts.

I am trying to introduce my children to some of the foods that their ancestors ate. This book has a lot of facts and folklore as well as interesting recipes. I have only made one so far but it was pretty good.

Been looking to purchase this for a while now. Good book, not disappointed.
