About the Author

After graduating from Oxford and pursuing further academic studies at Reading, James Taylor spent 12 years working in central government. However, the lure of writing about cars – which he was doing in his spare time – proved too great and he decided to turn it into a career. James has now written well over 100 books in all, and among them have been several definitive one-make or one-model titles. Nice photos and overall fine writing style, in a British style and from a British persepctive. The author has an obvious bias toward 'sporting' cars, which makes me wonder about his being chosen to author this book about big, ultra-luxury cars. If you are a fan of the W140 (1991-99 US S-Class) he is unduely harsh of these large cars, which outside of tiny Europe fit the roads just fine, and many innovations are missed. There is some 'cut and paste' of text between similar models, which is lazy writing... but for a Benz fan, it's a good book.

This book is a great resource for Mercedes owners of S Class.. It gives information such as number of car in production during a certain year and it gives history on the manufacturing of the vehicle. I highly recommend this book.

This book tells you everything you wanted to know about these great cars. If there is a fault it is that it is perhaps to tied to Mercedes public relations and does not give complete assessments of the various generations how they related to the competition in the day. Also does not have enough interviews where frank assessments of what went right and wrong in the design of the cars by the actual designers.

It exceeded my expectations in both contant and quality of the book service was a little slow 15 days from east coast.
