I've been a Christian for 35 years and honestly had not matured in my faith. Mostly because I was busy being a conformist of the world, hiding in plain sight, too scared to live out my faith and be the man God wants me to be. This book is relatable to "that guy". It challenged me to get with the program! To man up and live the life God has for me. I'm still struggling but I have a relevance now that I can relate to my daily walk and other men who work to keep me accountable! Well worth the cost and time to read! I dare you to read this book and then see if you have been honest with yourself or if it's time to Man Up!!!

A great Christian kick in the butt for any Christian man. In todays culture, this helps show how to man up in todays culture in all aspects of life, wether it be church, at home, as a husband, as a father. A must read for any Christian man. The end of each chapter has questions that can be used for personal study or as a small group.

I bought this book as a gift for my Dad because he loves religious reads such as this. This is a no nonsense book that reads in very clear easy to read language. The chapter on Marriage is worth the purchase alone. My Dad and I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have gained valuable insights on the Christian lifestyle. Worth a read for sure!

Pretty solid book. We read it in my small group at church (which this books translates really well for a men's bible study/small group if you are looking for one). I think if you are going to read this book, it is best to do it in a group setting like that and only a chapter or two each week because there is so much to reflect and consider when reading it. It will definitely point out areas in your life that you're being a "sissy"!

What I disliked about the book most was that it reiterated the same points each and every chapter. It failed to expand beyond that and bring in new knowledge. It brought up some good points as well though. It challenges you to step outside you comfort zone and become a disciple for Christ. I picked the kindle version of this book up for $3 I believe? Def worth the read for that price.

Great book for Christian men. Sets out the problems men have and successful methods in healing found within the church. Provides challenges needed to continue to live the life Jesus has planned for each of us.

This is the first Christian book I ever read. Good for inspiration, thought provoking, and educational on how God wants us to man up!Easy to hold and read.

This book has been extremely helpful in helping me locate areas where I really needed to step up. I have been able to deepen my relationship with Christ and through that, find ways to be a better husband, father, employees and disciple maker.Thanks for putting this in the hand of many and I strongly suggest it for any group of men that are trying to start a movement in their church.

A wonderful supplementary study resource, but by no means a primary resource. Before I write too much, I am a junior dev with 2 years of C# under my belt, and failed the 483 exam after reading this with a 679/1000 (need a 700 to pass).The book is formatted in a way that is great for studying the exam. The chapters are relevant to the topics suggested to study on the site and is rich in content and examples. I was able to read the book cover to cover relatively easily in chunks, certainly not a book I would want to power study in 1-2 days.As for the bad, the general portion of the examples have no real world context. Although the code will compile, often the examples have no purpose. Perhaps this is to cut down on the size of each example, but richer examples would definitely help during the learning process. I don't have any specific examples in mind, but I remember the sections with async/await, events, and trace/debug being particularly weak. The end of each chapter has a thought experiment to apply what you have learned, and three questions per chapter to test your knowledge.When I said secondary resource, what I meant is that even at several hundred pages, the book still feels too shallow to have a firm understanding of the language that you would need to pass the exam. It's great for brushing up on topics, or seeing a bit of syntax, but I feel that for the time on the MSDN, or for a similar cost having a pluralsight course for a month and using their path. Once I am done with this exam (hopefully second time is a charm) I will most likely never read this book again.

My job wants me to obtain an MCSD cert and I was looking for the most expedient way to gain the information as an experienced C++ programmer but with limited C# experience. It seems like the book is trying to give me what I need to know for the test and not teach the material.I find the book often confusing and the concepts not well explained. I often have to find videos that explain what the lesson is trying to say. Even as I try to write code to better understand the lesson in the encapsulation section when I try to use some of the get set syntax I get run time exceptions. Many of the examples are not clear and the code is not clear. I a not sure if it is the author or faults of the language that allows this confusing syntax.

I honestly didn't like the book, not enough depth and details. IMO, this book alone as reference won't help you pass, so you'll be better off looking elsewhere to augment your learning if you're new to C sharp. Not a beginner's book to use as reference for the exam.If only I could return this, I would.

While reading this book I enjoyed getting introduced to a lot of features in C# which I didn't try before and I think will help me be more productive. It makes me love C# and .NET more.I don't think this book is for newcomers to C# or new to programming in general.I didn't take the exam yet but I feel this is not enough to pass the exam.While reading this book I did search for the mentioned topics on MSDN and other sources just to be more clear on things and maybe see more examples.Even though I'm not new to programming the book got me confused. The organization of this book is so confusing.So what I did now is I read the book for the first time doing some highlights and notes and then I will do a second read on the topics which needs to be read one more time.

It's good for what it is. It's not "how to learn to code in C# by reading this book from cover to cover exactly in order", nor was it meant to be. It's good for covering the topics you need to cover in the order YOU need to, and as a good reference tool for the subjects it covers. This is the first Microsoft Exam Ref I've ever bought that did not have hands-on practices, but again, practices for the specific items you need help with are available on the Internet, with a little help from Google.

This is one of the worst programming language books I ever bought. Unfortunately there is not much choice if you need a book that covers the 70-483 test. If you don't already know the material, be prepared to read the book in front of your PC so you can research online what the author meant or missed or forgot to explain, whenever needed... which will be a lot of times.

I don't understand why this was recommended for my C# class, as hardly anything is fully explained in this book. If you are already an experienced programmer, it may be useful to you.. maybe. I'm taking an advanced C# class and I haven't even gotten into multi-threading yet and this book just jumps right to it without proper explanations or exercises, leaving me confused.

This book was sort of helpful but there are lots of mistakes and its definately could be better. I went through the book multiple times. This along with lots of pluralsight videos allowed me to pass the certification exam the first time. This book by itself is not nearly enough to pass the test. Supplement it with other sources of information.

I appreciate how Mr. Maurer explains the psychology of this, and how making incremental, deliberate steps leads a person to fulfill goals that have often gone unaccomplished. I have begun to implement these concepts into my life and am already seeing the results of this paradigm shift. Isn't it funny how sometimes the problem is just in how we as humans view a problem, and not so much in the problem itself?I highly recommend this book for anyone stuck in the rut of goal failure. Explore the world of Kaizen. The book, like it's philosophy, is not a long read or a complicated concept to grasp. Instead, it is a summary of wisdom that can truly help individuals and organizations develop in healthy ways and bring about important change.

You know what irritates me about self help books? 99.9% of them are BS and I'm including the "works" of some very big names in the field (you know who they are. The same old stuff reworked until it loses any real meaning. I've only read an extremely few that were worth the time and this is one of them. I work in a library and don't recommend any of the self help books we have for the above stated reason, except for this one. It's a small, effective book that gets to the point and keeps going. So, instead of firewalking or paying ridiculous sums to attend "seminars" to listen to what are really sales pitches, try this book. I got tired of checking it out and finally bought my own copy. PS. I won't be attending any seminars by Robert Mauer. His book is enough.

What a great little book. My desk was chronically piled with random papers-- paid bills, advertisements, coupons, things I needed to file, things I had set aside to read later. I could never seem to confront the huge chore. Before I had even finished this book, I put everything in a box, just to get used to having a clean desk top. Then I began dealing with three things a day. Just three. I even let myself pick out the easiest ones first, for instance coupons that had expired and could be trashed. Not only did I empty the box, but I have been able to maintain a clean desk top. And I have begun to apply this principle to other boxes in my closet. After I do my daily three things I reward myself by sitting down to read a book. If it's late enough in the day I also have a glass of wine. I highly recommend this book. It can literally change your life.

The book is very short. Succinct? yes. Too short? yes.The biggest problem I had with this book was that it was written in the 80's. From an economic and fiscal standpoint the problems they address are timeless; however, their solutions and suggestions are painfully dated.Over and over again, they made references to using technology to speed up the supply chain, obtain purchasing approval, and increase communication efficacy. Hi, I'm the future, we all have computers as phones and we are (to a fault) integrated / connected to the max via mobile everything.So the point is, you are going to receive a few cursory concepts regarding how to deal with hyperinflation; however, you are not going to get an indepth analysis. With less than 90 pages, what can you expect? Furthermore, their solutions are vague and no longer relevant.If you want an excellent read, I suggest "Endgame: End of the debt supercycle and how it changes everything"Amazon search "endgame" in books if you are interested. This book is not 100% focused on hyperinflation, but it was written in 2010 and covers the modern situation with eye-opening honesty.

With the Fed unrestrained money printing (QE), a corrupt government, rising gold price - these are all indicators of impending hyperinflation.This book caught my eye in today's economic environment. I think the material in this book isn't new, but the book does consolidate, in point form, important information you would need to run a business.Knowing how business will be run in this scenario, will better prepare you, the job seeker or employee to position yourself for gainful employment in such an environment.I see this book as having most of the information in one place and a quick reference [when] I need it. It also spares me the hassle of xeroxing multiple/printing multiple pages and putting it in a 3-ring binder, all of which will probably cost me more than this book - $9. Great bargain.

The information given here is now available in other, more recent books but I marvel at the fact that this book was written in 1989! The information given some 20 years ago is even more appropriate today! The authors (Figgie International) supposedly wrote a companion volume "for the individual", but I can't find it. I don't own a business, so some of the information in this book doesn't really apply to my needs. I do recommend this little volume for anyone who is interested in learning more about hyperinflation and its affects on business. Remember - that which affects business, affects consumers.

There are plenty of people willing to speculate on what will happen in an economy and what to do if it does. This book interviews South American Bankers and CEOs who have BEEN THROUGH inflation, even hyperinflation, and tells us what they did to survive, and even conduct business with some sense of normalcy in those environments. There are lots of good ideas and insights. Your current, proven business plan will simply not work if (when) inflation gets serious.Hopefully you will never need this book, but if you do, it will be quite literally worth its weight in gold. Buy it as cheap insurance against an uncertain future.

This is a very short book. Only 87 pages, but all the material could have been presented in about 5 pages. And of that 5 pages of material, at least half is just common sense. The kind of thing you could come up with in 15 minutes of brainstorming.Really, this is one of the worst books I have ever read. The informational content was almost non-existent.I have to wonder if all of the other reviews where written by family and friends of the author.

I don't review a lot of books anymore, but this one got to me. There are lots of books written by people -- including me -- who had a hard time growing up. Abusive parents, poverty, oppression. War. There is a lot of awful stuff children endure.Trevor Noah endured all of it. Name something bad that a kid can experience and it probably happened to him. Born under apartheid, his existence was illegal. His birth was, as the title of his book suggests, a crime.As the child of a white father and a black mother under South Africa during apartheid, if he had been noticed by the authorities, they would have taken him from his family and put him ... somewhere. So merely surviving until the end of apartheid was no mean feat. Add to that extreme poverty, violence and life under the most oppressive, racist regime you can imagine. Actually, you may not be able to imagine it. I knew it was bad, but South Africa refined oppression into an art form.One of the other noteworthy things about this book was that I learned great deal about things I thought I already knew. I don't know if Noah intended it as a cautionary tale, but it is. Chilling.I didn't read the book. I listened to the audiobook because Noah reads it himself. He has a beautiful, melodic voice and a lovely cadence. It was a treat for my ears and my brain.You might think with all of this terrible stuff -- and some of it is really horrific -- that this would be an angry, possibly embittered man. But he isn't.He's funny when humor is possible. Even when he's serious, there is grace and wit -- plus a sweetness and generosity of spirit that's rather uplifting. I don't think I've ever said that about a book. It's not a word I use lightly. Trevor Noah is a rare person, able to appreciate the good stuff in his life and not obsess over the considerable amount of injustice he has experienced.I'm not usually a big fan of celebrity memoirs or autobiographies, but this is exceptional. If you have the patience, listen to it as an audiobook. Otherwise, consider reading it. He's a smart guy, a good writer, and an astute observer of humanity, government, politics, and relationships. Insightful, witty, and entertaining, I highly recommend it.

I requested this book when I learned it was about Trevor Noah's childhood in Apartheid South Africa.I started reading my ebook galley as soon as I was approved.I have to love a guy who finds comedy in tragedy and who gleefully spins yarns about experiences that would keep most of us in therapy for a lifetime. There is a genius in comedy that allows us to encounter devastating truths through the protective lens of laughter.The heroine of the book is Noah's mother, a feisty lady with a solid rock faith, a gal who snubs her nose at things that don't make sense. She makes mistakes, but always out of love. She takes huge risks but somehow Jesus is always there to catch her mid-fall.Noah was "naughty as s***" and a challenge to raise, but never hateful or mean. He learned to navigate Apartheid society's complex system that divided people in to three groups: black, white, and colored. How one was categorized was senseless. Japanese were put into the 'white' slot but Chinese into the 'colored'."The genius of Apartheid was convincing people who were the overwhelming majority to turn on each other. Apart hate, is what is was."Noah was 'colored' with a 'black' Xhosa African mother and a 'white' Swiss father, his very existence implicating his parent's crime. Had the police discovered them, his parents would be sent to jail and Noah sent to an orphanage. He spent much of his life hidden away, indoors. His parents could not be seen together with him, and his mother had to even pretend he was not her child.Noah was "colored by complexion but not by culture." He spoke multiple languages, Xhosa and Zulu and Afrikaans, and English, could fit into most groups, but felt affiliated to black culture.The book is a series of episodic tales, thoughtfully constructed, saving the climax of his family history until the end of the book, after we have come to know and understand them."I saw the futility of violence, the cycle that just repeats itself, the damage that's inflicted on people that they in turn inflict on others. I saw, more than anything, that relationships are not sustained by violence, but by love."The book is funny but is more than a diversive read, it enlarges our understanding of the world. Noah offers an understanding of South African history, colonialism, and Apartheid that is engaging and relevant. He shares the important things he learned and offers them to us. We should listen. We should learn.

Wow...I started this book yesterday and could not put it down. As a new mom myself, I read most of it on my Kindle while either nursing or holding my son, which was fitting as this is such a tribute to his mom. As a long time viewer of the Daily Show, I started watching as Trevor took over from Jon Stewart and while I've always thought he does a good job, I had no idea the depth of character and experiences that were below the surface of those cute dimples! As is fitting to the Daily Show atmosphere, Trevor discusses difficult topics like race often, but I don't think I will ever watch a segment the same way again after reading his descriptions of what it was like to grow up under and during the fall of apartheid. And I keep thinking back to some of his impassioned pieces prior to the election with a whole new appreciation.But this review shouldn't be about his celebrity on the Daily Show. It stands alone as a remarkable memoir and a completely engaging story that will appeal to anyone who's felt like an outsider. He is a wonderful story teller, finding the right balance between relaying his experiences, weaving in the social atmosphere around it and doing it in such a way that even as an American reader, I was able to visualize the communities he was describing in rich detail. Additionally, he was able to explain aspects of a post apartheid world that not only clarify the plight of South Africans today but also shed light on some of the challenges we are facing here in the US. He has a unique perspective and a wonderful voice that I hope to hear more of in the future.
