So, there are moments when she does recount her thoughts and feelings during this time. I've always been very disturbed by the decision to not prosecute more people.I don't believe any of the doctors who experimented on prisoners in Japanese POW camps were ever prosecuted, and Japan did begin to publicly admit and apologize for its war crimes until the 21st century.Turkey continues to deny the Armenian genocide. I cannot respect a nation until there has been a full public admission and apology.

This book truly opened my eyes to the horrors endured .How tragic that so many innocent people were literally slaughtered for experiments . That were seen as essential.How disgusting that men and women swore to upheld the oath of healing could with help of the SS , and think nothing of torturing in the name of science,.I was deeply saddened by the truth and horrors that mankind can inflict with no remorse or guilt., such unimaginable cruelty.

Overall, it is a good book for middle and high school students as well as non-native English speakers. There is not enough material to fully prepare students for the exams/tests, but it will certainly improve the vocabulary and teach some expressions Here are the pros and cons of the book.Pros:- I liked the structure of the book. The lessons are divided by weeks and days. So, if a student is determined to study every day, the books will support his/her goal.- The new words are great. The authors actually focus on teaching the words that are not widely used. Here are some examples: "benevolent", "tenacious", "viable", "introspective", "omnivorous", "saturate", "complicity", etc.- There are sample sentences with blank spaces, where a learner is offered to place the new words.- Every lesson also has a section called "Todays' Idiom" with an explanation and a sample sentence. Here are some idioms used in the book: "to play possum", "on the spur of the moment", "to spill the beans", "like Caesar's wife", "to take by storm", "by hook or by crook", "Achilles heel", etc. As you can imagine, with 46 weeks of study (5 lessons in each), there are a lot of idioms!- There is a summary exercise at the end of each week. All answers are provided at the end of the book.Cons:- I was surprised that there are no definitions provided. They just throw words at you - go figure what does "alleviate" or "vindicate" mean. The spelling is there, but no definitions. I assume that it's easier to use a Kindle version of the book, where you can highlight a word and using the Internet, read the actual meaning of it. On the other hand, exercises are probably better in the printed version of the book - you can write the answers in the spaces provided.For non-native English speakers: This is not the only books that you will need to improve your English language skills. You may also want to check out these books on Amazon: "McGraw-Hill Handbook of English Grammar and Usage", "Everybody writes" by Ann Handley, "How to say it" by Maggie Rosalio, "Barron's Dictionary of American Idioms", "American Accent Training" by Ann Cook, "The blue book of grammar and punctuation", and "English the American Way: A Fun ESL Guide".

I bought this in Jan/2015 as an adjunct to the latest (6th) edition of the book by the same name (1100 Words You Need to Know). I have the box set published on July/2014.The good:(1) the cards are cleverly designed with 2 words on each card.(2) it is supposed to correlate with the book for an additional layer of review.The Bad:(1) the paper is thin, flimsy, and thus these cards won't last very long with much handling. We have 4 vocabulary students in our house, and this set probably can't take that much use! An "organizer" ring is included, but with the thin paper, I anticipate the punched out hole on each card will rip easy. Lamination is an option, as another reviewer suggested. But this means more work, and more $$$.(2) I thought that by buying the latest book, and the latest vocab box set that they would match. But, already, week 1, day 2, I have found that they don't correlate (book: "technology"; cards: "etiology"). I wonder how many other words on other study days won't correlate?Conclusion:This product just doesn't seem yet ready for primetime. Be wary of buying it unless Barron's makes the cards more sturdy, and ensures that the card list matches up with the book list.

Extremely disappointed that definitions ARE NOT INCLUDED. Seriously? So I hand this to my teenager, and he has to use his smartphone to look up the detailed definitions. Why in the name of XXX are detailed definitions not included? Synonyms are NOT definitions. Sheesh.

This is a classic case of quantity trumping quality. First, the definitions are usually spartan, often (but not always) encompassing no more than one-to-three words. Most words have various nuances in meanings, and SAT often cleverly tests knowledge of words beyond the simple "sound-bite" definitions often presented here. Second, only a single definition is usually provided for words with multiple, separate meanings. A good example is the word "countenance," which is defined in dictionaries as either "appearance," or "tolerate." In these cards, only the "tolerate" definition is offered. Imagine the student smugly confident that he's mastered the definition of this word going into the SAT exam, only to find that SAT chooses the "appearance" definition rather than the "tolerate" definition presented in these cards. I could cite dozens of similar examples. Third, synonyms are not listed, except occasionally in the definitions. Here again, SAT often goes with synonyms rather than with the "headline" definitions. Finally, with some words, I have found incorrect pronunciation guides (I checked three separate online dictionaries, none of which offered similar pronunciation). I also found one word (in a definition) misspelled -- totally inexcusable in a product of this nature. However, I do laud the fact that the sample sentences given here often incorporate other words in the deck. For those seeking to beef up their vocabulary, I suggest the far superior Princeton Review products. For those wishing to stick to flash cards, the Manhattan Prep flashcards, while not offering as many words, are vastly superior, giving very detailed definitions and synonyms. The Kaplan Flip-O-Matic flashcards, while inferior to the Manhattan Prep flashcards, also better the Barron's Flashcards.

Love this book series!!! So great to teach our Indian culture to Indian-American kids! It would be awesome to see more festivals represented (e.g., Christmas in India, Sankranti, Ganesh Chaturthi, etc.). Also, what would really be cool is if Neel and Maya visited each state in India and learned about their food, culture, clothing, language, important sights to see, etc. India is such a beautifully diverse country, and it would be great to showcase the diversity of each state in this book series so that Indian American kids can be proud of their heritage!

Very well done! I have purchased all 4 books in the Maya & Neel series so far and it has been a great way to educate my 3 year old daughter about various festivals celebrated in India. Looking forward to more books!

Cute book

My 5 year old son is hooked on this series! He loves reading about Maya & Neel & the little squirrel Chintu! We are a multi-cultural family and I spend a lot of time trying to find fun kids books about different cultures and religions. This one is fantastic! It's fun to read because they take you through the Ramadan & Eid holidays from beginning to end from the kids perspective so you really feel like you are experiencing it as part of the family too! My son learned a lot reading this and is already excited for the next adventure of Maya & Neel in India!

This book is so helpful, informational, and fun to read! Not only as a Muslim who likes to teach people about her faith and culture, but also as an elementary teacher! I had my students read the book and they LOVED it! They loved the characters Maya, Neel, and Chintu. They were very interested in why Muslims fast during Ramadan because they know that their teacher does. Reading this book really helped me in explaining to my kids how and why Muslims believe so much in fasting. I couldn't have asked for a better book on Ramadan and Eid :)I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about Islam or different cultures.

Vivek and Ajanta have produced another stellar informative childrens book. I first got the Diwali book in their series as a means to educate my daughter about her Indian roots . The book brought me fond memories of eid at my friends houses and ended up teaching me a lesson instead- that ramadan and eid was also a part of my heritage and that exposure to friends who celebrated it when I was growing up helped nurture my tolerance towards and respect for all religions. I hope my daughter develops a similar outlook . I cant wait for the "Mallu Christmas" book !

I love this book! It was everything I expected! I haven't done color by numbers since I was a kid(I'm 66) and have a hard time choosing my colors. This book is perfect for that, plus it has a variety of dragons!

This is not an adult coloring book as it states on the outside. Every picture is very small (only takes up half of the available paper) and is very simple overall. I love doing color by numbers and this not a challenging book by any means. It takes 10-15 minutes to color each one in. I bought this before there was a "look inside" option, so I wasn't able to see what it would be like. If you are looking for a challenging, adult color-by-number, this is not a good choice.

It s not an adult book

Wife wanted this, she was very disappointed with this. The images are small and this should be considered for kids like 10 or 12, not adult. The picture takes up about 1/3 the page, the numbers are colored cirlces take up another 1/3. It was a waste of money. Suppose will give it to my 4 yr old grandson.

The book that you get is not even the same book that you see here. Every picture is very small and is very simple overall. It takes 10-15 minutes to color each one in. Extremely simple. More of a headache than a stress reliever. I do not recommend this book at all. However I suppose the publishing company tries to make up for it by giving you two exact copies of the same book with in the same binding. Still not recommended whatsoever.

I ordered this book STAT after I reading Dr. Liao's first book "Six Foot Tiger, Three Foot Cage" it is also just as excellent and filled with more case studies. Once a mother discovers her child has a problem...Chronic Mouth Breathing, Tongue Tie, High Arched Narrow Palate, Retruded Jaws, Overbite and Overjet and Midface Deficiency she becomes a top notch FBI investigator!!! Thanks to Dr. Liao explaining how each piece of the puzzle fits together has enabled us to seek like minded dental professionals so he can now get the DNA appliance. I am completely confounded that all orthodontists do not understand these concepts.... Is makes complete common sense not the retract teeth first with braces before doing arch development to give oneself a six foot cage (jaw) for their six foot tiger (tongue). Dr. Liao answers the WHY he does not simply treat the symptoms with Bandaid medicine. Dentists need to ask WHY are your teeth crooked??? Why is your palate so narrow??? What could have made this happen could it be chronic mouth breathing, tongue tie and tongue thrust, noxious habits such as thumb sucking or bad allergies. These dentists see these problems everyday and do little investigation....Therefore parents and anyone with any of these symptoms educate yourself as nobody cares about your own health as you do. I REALLLLLY wanted to love this book, I did. I even tried to convince myself that it was clever, but I just couldn't make the stretch. The rhyme was a stretch on many pages (round/town, smarter/harder), but on some of the pages where the rhyme worked, the meaning was lost because the author was way too worried about the rhyme. What is the dangerous room? What is the purpose of going into the family grocery store? Does the family live upstairs.... because that's not something that most kids will connect with at all (or even realize)? These things feel totally random and odd for this type of book. It truly felt like these scenes were made up strictly to make the rhyme work (or kind of work). I did have high hopes because this publisher generally publishes such quality work, but no matter what I do, I just can't get excited about this book. I gave it three stars because I think the illustrations are redeeming and saved it from being really terrible.

The illustrations tricked me into buying it. I thought it was going to be a great book, but it turned out to be just "meh." The rhyming story doesn't make a lick of sense, and the meter is jarring in places by the awkward addition of one too many syllables.

Each year I try to add a book or 2 to our Christmas collection. This was one of our books for this year and I regret not checking it out first at the library, to see what I was getting. As a homeschool mom of young children, maybe I am out of touch with the violence we are supposed to be humorously teaching our children. This book talks about bombs, cannons and boob traps for Santa and his elf, as if this is a normal practice for children to do each year to catch him and his elf.While the book IS called How to Catch and Elf, I expected something whimsical and warm hearted to reflect the spirit of the holiday, not mischievous and mean hearted. It is safe to say, the first reading of this book is our last and it will not be staying in our collection.

Not the best book I've ever read. The story is lacking and seems unfinished! The book cover really grabs you, but the story inside does not live up to the cover at all!

I too was tricked into buying this without actually reading the reviews. This book is complete garbage - poorly written and not a positive message for kids. I’m actually still not sure what the message of the book was after reading it to my 4 yr old. If you still end up purchasing this book as I have... then you deserve the outcome. For the other reviews that claim this to be a great book... I have no words.

My 4 year old loved it!! I got this one for him and another one for my 2 year old when I prepared a special breakfast. We got the Elf on the Shelf and made a big parade for his entry this year, and I set up a fancy table with donuts and hot chocolate for them. At the table they found their elf-themed books and loved them. (It took a while to set everything up, but it is once a year, right? the books were not expensive, which helps too!)

I bought this book for my grandchildren. It had such wonderful potential for a lively, interesting story that I was sure would hold their attention. Wrong. I was so disappointed. I read it, then tossed it in the recycling. The rhyming was off and the story was, to put it bluntly, stupid. Illustrations were cute. Books like this that actually get published make me think I should take a crack at writing children's books.

I purchased this book as a gift for my daughter's Christmas Eve box. She loved it. We continue to read it during the holidays. It is easily read for 2-5 grades for sure. Depending on the child's reading level I'd say this age group should read with ease. I would recommend. It's a cute little book.
