The idiots guide and for dummies both had mediocre reviews so I decided to go with this. Very glad I did. As an engineer with an aptitude for programming I found the book neither boring nor patronizing. As a newbie to Macs, Xcode, and Swift I appreciate that there were no skipped steps to leave me scratching my head. GOOD JOB!!!

Excellent introduction to the basics of programming and swift. Very approachable and not just for kids. The later chapters start taking some giant leaps which will leave many with more questions than answers, forcing you to spend more time outside the book than in. This might frustrate some younger learners.

This is a good coding book, well written and with clear examples and illustrations. It contains some touches of humour directed to kids.As indicated by another buyer, this is not exclusively directed to kids, but can be very useful for adults that want to inniciate in this fascinatingworld.I do recommend it.

I bought this book for my 8 year old, now 9. It's a good technical book with great layout and formatting that makes it easy to read and follow the examples. For an 8 or 9 year old it is pretty advanced and works best if the kid has already had some basic experience with programming. Even with some programming experience the book works well if the kid has an older sibling or parent to help them when they get stuck.

Although I have yet to read through the whole book, I am already impressed by the 1st couple chapters where the author explain in great detail and yet natural way introduce user to the Apple Swift.Job well done!!

Don't overlook because of the "for kids" in the title. It's a solid introduction to the subject. The writing style, sample code, and explanations are for anyone who is interested in learning IOS programming with Swift. I hope the authors continue developing books on this subject. They did a great job with this book and I hope to see more from them in the future.

Really liked the format and flow of this book. I have about 30 years experience writing apps, but none with Swift. Good starting point.

I bought this for my son to learn.He already knows Python and has done some minor programming in other languages (guided programming) but this book was too much for him. As a developer I found several areas in the book that were mistakes are we being explained on an advanced level outside of what I think is acceptable for a kid just started.

I discovered "Take Up and Read" through social media. And I'm so glad I came upon it because these books are perfect for the modern day Catholic striving to uphold the sanctity of such daily practices as Lectio Divina. Let's be honest, Lectio Divina is not something the average Jane does on a daily basis. However, with this thoughtfully created study, you will actually look forward to this practice. The layout, reflections, and overall quality of this study are outstanding. Instead of being written by one writer, which results in one perspective, this book contains reflections and studies from a group of women.Aside from the content of the book being A+, which is the most important, an added bonus is that this book is beautiful!...both the cover and the pleasant sketches/bible verse typography throughout the book are impressive. Love this! Can't wait for more from Take Up and Read.

I kinda think the Holy Spirit lead me to this book. I don’t even remember how I heard about it but I did, looked it up and ordered. By some Divine intervention I have even found a few quiet moments tonight to read the intro (more than a week before Lent even starts?!? Wha?) and it couldn’t be more perfect! I needed simple and everything laid out for me and this is it! As a busy mom I struggle with finding anytime just for prayer in the day but I really think this book will be a God sent to getting me organized, focused and peaceful this Lent. I can’t wait for Ash Wedensday so I can get started!

I have to start my review saying that I’ve tried using devotionals before, and they never kept me motivated to continue. I found many women’s devotionals to be superficial in their approach to scripture; playing heavily on emotions and not enough on developing a relationship with God through His Word.I’m not two days into Above All and I am so motivated to continue diving into Scripture. It speaks to me as a woman, wife, and mother as well. It’s all I could hope for in a devotional.I highly recommend using a Didache Bible in conjunction with the study so that notes/commentary on selected passages can help with further understanding.TL;DR Take Up and Read is my only go to for women’s devotionals. Others can’t compare.

I just received this beautiful journal yesterday. I wasn't sure what to expect because when I heard "journal" I expected lots of room to write and a few questions or topics for me to contemplate, which honestly intimidates me. But instead of that, there are many references to applicable scripture for each day with small areas to make personal notes. The only thing I was expecting was that it would be based on the daily mass readings, but it is not. In some ways I love that, to get the extra scripture into my day, but in some ways I wish that was incorporated. I am really looking forward to FINALLY feeling like I have something to help me through Lent. Usually I have no idea how to focus spiritually and scripturally through these liturgical seasons. I am really grateful this was recommended to me!

This is a great introduction to lectio divina for lent. The Bible passages are short but invite deep reflection. Sometimes I get more out of the supplemental verses recommended than the main verses it presents for reflection. The main verse for reflection is printed out in the book, but you will need a Bible to look up the supplemental verses. The guided meditations on the readings are mostly written by married women who have children, but are usually are on brand enough these, that even single women or women without children find points for useful introspection from them. I like the boxes for journaling and the question prompts to job reflection. Although the book is marketed for lent, it really could be used any time of the year one is seeking aa conversion theme. I have recommended it to many people with different spiritualities and everyone has loved it. I am optimistic this will give me the habit of lectio divina to last beyond lent.

This has been perfect for my Lent...instead of overachieving, like I usually do ("I'll read this book...and do these email devotionals...and this print devotional, and this with my kids..."), I decided to slow down and focus on this. I love that it is self-contained...no real need for a separate Bible and journal: it's all in one (perfect for those days when I settle down for my study and the Bible happens to be in the kids' bedroom from last night's prayer time!) I do have my Bible nearby in case I want to look up a verse in the "for further contemplation" section, but the primary Scripture verse (which is printed out), usually has enough meat in it for contemplation. The meditations are personal, raw, and challenging. I feel like I spend "just enough" time on this every day...about 15 minutes. I love where this study is guiding me---it's not letting me rest on my laurels. It is pushing me to be a more authentic Christian. It is encouraging me to forgive myself and not beat myself up and to trust and find strength in the Lord. It is not a whiny, navel-gazing study. It is for Christian women who are struggling to get to the next level. I will buy their other studies to keep this groove going!

I wanted to give this not even one star. This study journal is harsh, accusatory, like a hardcore sermon each and every day.Our Catholic faith is gracious. The mercy of God tempers His wrath. Our Good Lord Jesus beckons to His daughters, allows our free choice for Him or not. But draws, like a cool breeze at the seaside, the tired heart always toward the ocean of His love.Purchase St. Francis de Sales "Introduction to the Devout Life" instead.

A led daily Lectio Divina, with serious Scriptural mirrors being held up to my face. This is what I was in need of this Lent. A gentle, firm “tough love.” No other book of Scripture study and implementation (that is a simplified description—it is much more) is like this. This one is the very best. I like this book a lot - I also have and love Magical Manadalas - from which book these pictures came - and were blown up - to create a less intricate pattern book. I think it was a Great idea - made a completely different coloring experience wth Patterns I already love.

 This is one of my favorite Jade Summer books. The patterns are amazing. I love it!

This book has gorgeous patterns, and the pictures fill the entire page. The photo I included is an example of how perfect this book is for me to really refine my coloring techniques (black pearl, anyone?). One sided pages with black on the other side. Not perforated.

Lovely patterns and great for markers. Paper is a bit think so just put card stock behind the picture.

Good job on the book Roberta. Many a company these days flounders due to a lack of vision. Generating profit alone does not qualify as a valid objective. If it did, people would be content in delivering sub standard work and products. Many a company fails to create a bonafide purpose. If leaders elect to adhere to Roberta's teachings, they'll learn to preempt people to profits which will lead to long term gains rather than short term profits. However, one thing Roberta did not address is how to spot an unctuous leader. Some people ostensibly will give you a hug yet in reality will stab you in the back. Genuine leaders will create a propitious working ambience for succeed. Ingenious ones are difficult to spot and will throw you under the bus. But in all fairnes, Roberta wrote on how to be a genuine leader rather than a wary employee.

This is a perfectly delightful book (ambrosial, one might say): a thesaurus containing unusual (selcouth) or archaic (superannuated) synonyms for common words. It is, of course, utterly frivolous (nugacious), insofar as the tendency in modern writing is to dumb things down to the lowest common denominator, and anyone using unfamiliar words is immediately branded a snob, a poseur, or (God forbid) an elitist (a mandarin). In the 21st century, any word or phrase not used regularly in the Common Core curriculum, or not easily rendered in absurd abbreviations for use in Twitter, is considered worthless (nugatory) or even sinister (baleful). But those few readers who still adore the infinite varieties of language and wordplay will find the book a source of joy, erudition, and blessed relief from our "democratized" language.One reviewer has complained that the book is not "complete," because there are innumerable words which are not included, but this is not meant to be the latest edition of Roget: it is rather a collection of enjoyable synonyms for thousands of words that we use routinely, not even suspecting that a synonym exists. Logophiles will be enraptured; logomaniacs will be momentarily satisfied; and anyone else who simply enjoys language will be hugely entertained.

I just purchased this book on Amazon Kindle. As a warning, one must pay particular and close attention to what the author is saying, because his introduction requires specific reading. However, he goes deeply into what words are used correctly for the purpose the writer has in mind. I find the book fascinating , being used to regular thesauruses that just list words and not really tell the correct way to use them. I will be using this book when writing. Wish I had seen this book sooner while tacking legal writing! As a caution, I will note that this book is not for one who just wishes to use words "off the cuff". Time and consideration must be given to how words are used for clarity in communication. I see this book as a bridge between a dictionary and a regular thesaurus.

I started it January 14. I'm plowing through it A to Z, in a strictly abecedarian march. I hope to finish the letter B before the Super Bowl, and Z by Thanksgiving. The word selection is advanced, The definitions concise & tachlis. The examples are recent and fill out the meaning. It's better than a vocabulary book if you are trying to prepare for an SAT type exam. It's better than a first generation thesaurus if you are trying to find the word that gives a special nuance.

As a poet I am always looking for unusual alternatives to mundane words. This book provides that, alongside useful definitions and synonyms. Great addiition to the bookshelf, althogugh it will probably spend a greater proportion of tht time on the deskk. Open..

I am very pleased with this thesaurus. Most thesaurus will give you a synonym(s) for a word but the Thinker's Thesaurus gives you the correct synonym with an explanation and examples. For students, new writers, seasoned writers and lovers of the English language this is a MUST HAVE for your reference library. Not only did I purchase the Kindle edition for my Kindle Fire but I also purchased the paperback. Well worth the money.
