Flowcharts for the FRE are great for those of us who learn well that way, and would probably be making them for ourselves without something like this. The full page rule-by-rule format here works better, in my view, than the big wall size Evidence Map that is also out there.HOWEVER--this is a relatively new text and it contains quite a few typos and mechanical errors. As I haven't gone through it exhaustively yet, I can't say if any of the flowcharts are actually wrong or misleading--however in at least one instance the same chart was (erroneously) printed for two different rules ( FRE 407 and 408, which are often presented together in lecture--thus not only is important study material missing but a sufficiently inattentive student might be confused into thinking the two rules are tested identically.)Beckman has a good thing going here, but West lets us down with this printing (I'm assuming the oversights are mostly theirs, by lack of copyediting etc.)Hopefully either West, or Beckman himself, will set up an errata site where missing or wrong charts can be updated via PDF. (West also offers this as an eBook, so that shouldn't be too tough.) As of the date of this review, I can't find one. Upon inquiry, a West chat rep forwarded the request to their errata department--we'll see what happens.

This is a solid account of the first real fighting between the ground forces of Australia, he US Army (including the US Army Air Force), and the Japanese ground forces. Due to the location of the fighting (extreme heights and trackless jungles), the allied forces didn’t initially perform well, not having trained for this environment and being under-equipped for the type of fighting. This campaign was the first significant victory over Japanese ground forces (beating the much better known Guadalcanal campaign by about two weeks). Losses here were horrific for both sides, higher than those at Guadalcanal. The author also makes a good point that some of the Japanese strongholds could have been left to wither on the vine, and been starved-out vice actively attacked.My only real complaint is that the included maps could have been better, as they’re hard to follow. But this is a good book about a nearly forgotten campaign.

My fanily has many copies of this book, and I just bought it for my father-in-law. My grandfather fought in this battle, and is actually in this book. These soldiers are true heroes, though they will never think that of themselves.

My father fought with the 163rd infantry in this battle. He never spoke of his experiences in the war. He died in 1978 of leukemia as a result of radiation poisoning after being stationed at Hiroshima 10 days after the bomb fell. I've researched much of what he experienced and I've never found a more fascinating and graphic account of the war than this book, Bloody Buna' written by Lida Mayo. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in WWII primarily because it is so well-written and secondly because these battles have been so grossly overlooked. You'll find this accounting to be far more fascinating than most other WWII battles. This really was the first time that we gave the japs hell.

"Bloody Buna" covers the events leading up to and the battle for Buna-Gona-Sananda on New Guinea in the early days of the war in the Pacific. It took place in parallel with the Marine struggle for Guadalcanal, yet this U.S. Army engagement is virtually forgotten. But this is where the U.S. Army learned vital lessons for the jungle struggles that would push the Imperial Japanese army back across the Pacific. Read this along with "Ghost Mountain Boys" for a complete picture of the engagement.

To a certain extent this book is superseded by The Ghost Mountain Boys, but not completely. In this short, concise work the author manages effective and thoughtful criticism of MacArthur, and also addresses the issues of the friction between the Australian and American forces, and the quality or lack thereof of American fighting. This battle was commenced around September of 1942, and ended in January of 1943, really it was fought at the same time as Guadacanal. The author also does a good job pointing out the competition for resources and attention between Buna and Guadacanal, especially from the Japanese point of view. And the fact that appropriate weapons were lacking to reduce the Japanese bunkers. Much praise is due the author.

This book clearly shows how uninformed our generals were in WWII, especially in New Guinea, trying to make decisions from far behind the battle lines with inadequate intelligence resources at their disposal.My father fought near Buna. This book gave our family a chance to get more details out of him. He has rarely spoken much about his war experiences.The included maps really help readers understand how events changed during the conflict. Most of us are otherwise unfamiliar with New Guinea.

I bought this book,...only because my uncle was there...in the midst of the bloody combat fighting that took place in WWII Buna, New Guinea,...between the American forces and the well entrenched and supplied Japanese. The losses were teriffic to the American forces because of the well equipped Japanese, and the unforgiving jungle. The "Battle for Buna", became the American ground forces turning point for war in the Pacific. War historians and the general public will find this book interesting.

What a great way to learn about New Zealand's history, weather, language, plants, animals, culture. The book is humorously narrated by a caravan (in the U.S. we call them travel trailers) as it wryly observes its current lodger trying to acclimate to life in the woods without the comforts of his London flat. Fortunately the caravan can read the lodger's diary, which describes some of his activities outside the caravan. And the caravan shares stories about previous tenants and their travels around the country. Reading the book is like being taught by a teacher who is so entertaining we don't realize how much we're learning. I know so much more about New Zealand now.

Took a minute to get used to a caravan, as the narrator. After that, it was a fun, interesting, and informative read. Even though I had the most wonderful holiday there, a few months ago, I feel that i know and understand the place and people better. Now that I have read this book.

I enjoy travel memoirs and this was no exception. An outline would have improved the order, as it is told using Mr. Tindale's journal, and the speaking caravan. I'd like for a New Zealander to read and review the book so I could be sure everything was true, as it seemed exaggerated.

I really enjoyed the book.Its a pretty quick read about a guy who wants to get away to live a different life than the one he's used to for awhile.Many of us can relate and would like to do something similar.I found the book to be a lot of fun to read.

Absolutely bloody brilliant!A great read which incorporates a tourist perspective as well as much of the Kiwi "She'll be right mate" and "I'll give it a go" attitude.Loved the narration by the caravan.Can't wait to read more by this author.

This is a quirky book, with a moderate amount of New Zealand history thrown in. It is a quick and pleasant read.

I bought this book based on the glowing recommendations of some other buyers and I was truly disappointed with the lack of coverage of some topics compared to other books, such as the Storey's Guides to goats. This book is a nice supplemental reference book, but is lacking in detail on things like what plants are good to have in your pastures for the goats. By comparison the Storey's Guide to Dairy Goats goes into wonderful detail about what plants are good to have in pasture, what plants are poisonous, even how you can cut the plants (manually as well as mechanically with tractors, etc). I am not sorry I bought this book as I am sure I will reference it, but personally, I really like the Storey's Guides better.

I love goats. I've only spent limited time with them in petting zoo or organic farm settings, but something about them speaks to me. They are like a cat crossed with a horse - I appreciate their personality, their curiosity, and their cleverness. Plus, who could scratch one under the chin while looking into those peculiar eyes and not fall in love?I made a resolution to learn more about homesteading and self-sufficiency this year. I'm not in a place where I can do a lot of it, but I thought I'd teach myself anyway. Do I really want chickens, goats, or sheep? How much trouble are they? What's required? How hard is it to make goat cheese or soap, or to encourage chickens to lay eggs? I ordered this book to tackle the goat questions.Overall, this is a very detailed book. It's got tons of info, from choosing a goat to training one for working or tricks. I'm only about halfway through, but I terrifically pleased with it. It's made me realize just how troublesomely fun goats would be and what it would take to have milking goats as opposed to pets.As a complete newbie to any farm animal other than horses, this is a great introduction and has enough detail that I think it could carry you through owning goats for several years. Whether you want pets/friends or you're looking to get into breeding goats, I'd recommend this as a great reference book.

I feel like this book jumped around a lot. I also feel that with most of the problems goats face the authors answer was "call the vet". I'm not opposed to calling a vet for some things, but I was hoping for a more informative "here's how to handle it yourself" approach. I live very far away from a vet, so most things I will probably at least attempt to take care of myself. I don't feel like this book added anything to my existing knowledge of goats, and I would classify myself as beginner.

Or should I say "goat in a poke"? In any case, I have always wanted to have goats and once I read this book I came to the conclusion that they're probably a little more work than I can handle and still have a 60 hour a week job. Reading this book saved me a lot of time, effort, and goat-rehoming efforts.

This was hard to rate because in some ways it's awful, in others it's very interesting.I'll start with the bad stuff: If you read this on your Kindle, be prepared for A MESS. This has clearly not been made with Kindle in mind, and the converstion to ebook format has gone very, very bad (I imagine/hope the physical version is not like this). Chapters and illustrations pop up where they make no sense. It is also , in some parts, not written very well. Sometimes information comes up that is completely irrelevant to the current chapter, so even if they layout and chapters hadn't been messed up, it would still be somewhat confusing. The first impression is not a good one.Other than that, it contain a lot of useful information, including chapters on training pack and harness goats, which most books seem to skip completely. It even has a section about clicker training (which I wish was followed through when it comes to the cart training bit, but there for some reason a more traditional method is described).

I gave this book to my wife as a gift because for the last 5 years she has expressed a desire for a pet goat. This seemed like a good choice for someone trying to decide what type of goat to get. I made a great choice; she loves this book and has learned a great many important things. The information in this book will prevent her from making mistakes when it comes to selecting and caring for her goats. My other choice was "Goats for Dummies", but I just could not make myself give a gift to anyone, much less my wife, with the word dummy in the title.

This book is very well written, but for what i was looking for it just didn't do it for me. (Why i gave 3/5 stars). I had gotten the Storey's Guide on raising sheep and was going to get the Guide on Dairy Goats but someone recommended me this book and i don't know why. It gave information; just not nearly enough. It skimmed over topics. And the fact i skipped out on three chapters just because it had nothing to do with Dairy Goats: "Training and Tricks" and "Wagons, ho!" and "Packing with Goats" which happened to be a big chunk of the book. But i will admit I never thought "Goat History" could be so fun to read. The colored pictures were beautiful in this book, the pictures in "Enjoying your Goat" were especially fun to see. I would recommend this book to someone just wanting general information. But for someone who KNOWS they want Goats and want lots of facts on pastures, health, diet etc i would tell them to look else where.

I have been wondering about the best way to get involved raising goats and this book us very detailed and informative. I had no idea there are so many different types of goats, but it figures! The angora goats look very soft. Including the information about how to milk a goat correctly and make your own cheese this book has alot of valuable information, I have loved the taste of goat cheese and wondered how exactly to make it and it's explained easily here. So much to learn about, how to clean and care for goats even teach how to pull a cart or float for a parade and teach how to dance. Very thorough and fascinating to read, a really good buy.

About the Author

Telford Taylor (1908-1998) graduated from Williams College and Harvard Law School. During World War II he served in Europe as a U.S. Army intelligence officer, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. After the Nuremberg trials, Taylor practiced law in New York City, taught at Columbia Law School and the Benjamin Cardozo School of Law, and published a number of books, including Munich: The Price of Peace, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award for best nonfiction work of 1979.

I am a former war crimes prosecutor who has taught a course on war crimes, genocide and justice at the university and law school level for 20 years. Taylor's book is, hands down, the best book ever written about the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. I am very glad to see it back in print after nearly 20 years. It is an authoritative, readable and comprehensive account of the IMT by Taylor, the deputy chief prosecutor and one of the most thoughtful commentators of the 20th century on matters of war, crime and justice.Note, however, that this book deals only with the IMT, not the 12 subsequent cases (doctors, financiers,etc.) that the Americans tried at Nuremberg after the IMT concluded. Too bad, because Taylor was chief of counsel for those trials. He intended to write a second volume about them (at age 85, no less) but never did so.If you know a lot about the IMT, this will give you new insights. If you will only read one book about the IMT, this is the one.

Mr. Taylor, one of several very bright individuals (attorney) who assisted at the first trial for the highest ranking Nazis who could be found and later as lead prosecutor during trials that followed, produced a flowing, broad account of the scramble to bring this event to the world and to terminate a dreadful and despised organization. Herein is a wealth of facts, observations and asides about the trial and the participants including the effort leading up to the trail to organize and produce the historical event. The awaited overview of the interrogation and rebuttal of each defendant comes later in the book. With so many players and five primary countries the narrative becomes a bit entangled and confusing in spots but nothing that slows the pace. To that point creating a list of the individuals as they appear would help to keep the record straight as the story advances. An unprecedented event such as this was not without regular pitfalls for the Allies, the Americans to a greater degree, which Mr.Taylor openly recalls. This is very much the story and not a technical rendition of the trial so proceedings, the exchanges between attorneys and judges, are easily understood. For those of casual interest the more than 700 pages will likely be excessive but if you are are looking for one entertaining, end to end treatment of this event, from the humanistic to the legal and political, you may not do better than this book. The one regret is that Mr. Taylor did not produce a similar account for later trials.

If you've ever wanted to know the ins and outs, and the evidence, findings, and various characters involved in the Nuremberg trials, this is certainly a book that you will find informative, interesting and good reading. I wouldn't pick it up just for its fun and entertaining reading. I'm almost done reading the book, and I'm glad to have read it. The book thoroughly discusses the administration of the trials, problems and debates, defendants, prosecutors, judges, allegations, evidence, and everything I wanted to know. And, it was good reading too--written first hand by a chief prosecutor. If this topic is an area of interest for you, this is an exceptional read.

i'm about 1/3 of the way through this very informative book.as an aside, i worked with one of the prosecutors without knowing it. this came out after he retired. it was so traumatic an experience for him he never spoke of it in all the years he worked. taylor has taken a very serious subject & made it extremely readable.

Inside story by major insider in trial. Gives background to trial and let's you inside the minds of the prosecutors and the judges. History at its best

I don't write many book reviews any longer- I read well over 200 books a year and just don't have that kind of time. And I never was a fan of nonfiction. I'm not a nosy person, and don't care to read about their lives.This book, however, I had to have! I'm a huge animal lover, a fan of Pit Bulls and Parolees, and this book, while having some personal info in it, is more about the dogs that mattered the most- a handful of them, anyway. THAT was the kind of nonfiction I could get behind, so I ordered an autographed copy of the book, preordered the Kindle version, and waited eagerly for midnight for the book to show up on my device.I devoured it in 2 sittings, only because sleep was necessary. If you love the show, you've seen Monster and Blueie. You watched the rescue of Lucky the "ghost dog". You saw pictures of Mariah's beautiful dog, L.A. I chuckled, I was excited to read more, I cried several times, and I was truly sorry to reach the end of the book.Ms. Torres, you've said you enjoy writing. I hope you will publish another with some more amazing dog stories. I'd love to read more about some other favorites, like Rhino, how Jasper became yours, the story of Jack (since you talked of the beautiful Monster in this book), and any other truly amazing dogs who've touched your heart the way they've touched mine. This book was amazing, well written, included only one typo to my eye ("lung" instead of "lunge") and I'll definitely be looking for more books to read in between bingeing the show.

It is always a learning experience watching a!I of you with unconditional love for all the underdogs. I have a chronic/terminal illness. I have been very sick for yrs. I thank you for your tenacity and courage and above all your love of your dogs/animals. I for one will NEVER forget this amazing journey you have taken me on. Loved this book - it was heartfelt and shared wonderful stories about the dogs who were the stars in their owners eyes. I was moved by the stories and admire the thought behind it. Well done!

Started reading this at noon today and couldn't put it down till I was finished reading it. 5 hours later, and in awe of this amazing lady. I've been watching the show since it aired and have cried during many episodes. Reading this book made me laugh and cry so many times. Tia is such a down to earth lady and will do anything for her kids, 2 legged and 4. Remembering all the dogs mentioned in this book brought back memories of each dog as they were in the show. Bluie and Tania's story, both in the show and again in the book had me crying like a baby. Keep up the amazing job you do and God Bless you and your family. Truly an amazing animal loving family🐕🐕

This book is a must read for anyone who loves animals and especially those working in various rescue groups. It is heartwarming and tear producing, and you will be inspired in the reading of Tia's stories. The only recommendation is that she write another one or 10 as we would love to read more stories of her life with her dog and human family. I highly recommend this book because you will not be bored as her writing is spot-on, and your spirit will be uplifted hearing about her life and her hardships along the way. Her main theme in her book and her life is never let life get you down where you feel helpless. Fall down, get up and do it all again and again until you get it right. Thank You Tia Torres for being such a shining example for us all.

I am a regular watcher of the program (though mostly in reruns). Tia and her family and parolee workers are always entertaining. And you can't help but grasp the love that they have for the dogs. But this was special ... in that it delves into the back stories of dogs that have been pivotal in Tie's live and the lives of her children. The extra benefit is that she is a really good writer ... something that many who sell books can't honestly say! I'd be surprised if you didn't find yourself belly-laughing at one scene and weeping at another. Which is at the heart of every relationship we have with our dogs. Buy it ... read it ... pass the word!
