I don't normally post or read reviews on textbooks, as you don't really have a choice in the purchase. However, you do have a choice in format, so it's worth providing feedback on the format for potential purchases, and perhaps the publishers will listen as well.I purchase all my textbooks in eCopy when available, as the benefits fit my needs. The most notable of which is being able to read the material on multiple devices. It's really one of the fundamental benefits of eBooks. I routinely use my personal computer, Kindle Fire, and work computer to read textbooks. This is the first textbook that I've ever purchased that is restricted to 2 computers. I assumed that meant you couldn't run them at the same time, but actually you can't have them loaded on more than 2 computers; you have to deregister a device if you accidentally load it on the wrong one and hit your limit. That, or it recommended that I simply purchase a second copy. "Buy Once, Study Anywhere"? Not really. Yes, I can work around it and just restrict myself to 2 devices, but it's asinine to have to do so. Amazon has these Kindle programs locked down pretty tight, I'm sure they can see they're all my registered devices. I'm not passing my books on to other students, and I can't even sell off a used copy when done. I haven't purchased any other textbooks that felt a need to impose this kind of restriction. This experience has certainly been in support of good ole printed copy.In addition to the licensing problem, the digital copy looks like it was just scanned in on an old xerox. Or maybe that's what the printed copy of this book looks like? Mine is all in black and white, and the text isn't adjustable like most Kindle formats. I could have saved a lot of money just buying a cheap used version and scanning it myself.

I give this two stars because of the Kindle format, not because of the marketing content. The content is decent: it's thorough, a bit dry, and up-to-date.The Kindle format, though, is frustrating. First, it's fixed pages, not flowing text. I understand that perhaps some professors value page numbers, but scrolling as if this were a scanned PDF gets very old. Another big problem is that it's limited to TWO devices. This is very irritating, as I cannot read it wherever I wish, which rather spoils the point of having an e-book. No other textbook of mine has this low of a limit. Also, you are not allowed to change the font or even the color scheme.I hope the publisher reads this book and then decides to conduct some of it's touted market research on the students who buy this book. Perhaps the publisher will discover that students expect a modern e-book, not a glorified PDF.UPDATE: I de-registered one of my Kindle for PC instances so I could read this on my phone and discovered that the publisher will not allow it on Kindle for Android, even if I have an available license. It's also not available on the Kindle Cloud Reader! So basically, I don't get to read this unless I'm Officially Parked At My Desk to Read the One Book I Can't Read Anywhere Else (TM).

About the Author

Ken Ilgunas is an award-winning author, journalist, and backcountry ranger in Alaska. He has hitchhiked ten thousand miles across North America, paddled one thousand miles across Ontario in a birchbark canoe, and walked 1,700 miles across the Great Plains, following the proposed route of the Keystone XL pipeline. Ilgunas has a BA from SUNY Buffalo in history and English, and an MA in liberal studies from Duke University. The author of travel memoirs Walden on Wheels and Trespassing Across America, he is from Wheatfield, New York.

In this book, Ken Ilgunas argues for the “right to roam,” or more precisely, for responsible public access to cross private property. This right is most notably in Scotland and the Nordic countries, and to a more limited extent in England, Wales, and elsewhere.Because such a right would mark a significant change in how Americans think about private property, the book includes a substantial overview of the history, the theory, and the practice of private property rights. Private property rights in land are not something immutable, but have changed over time. At root, society grants private property rights to serve broader social goals, most notably agricultural and then industrial development. Society also limits private property in various ways, including easements for utilities and roads, limitations to protect habitat for endangered species, and shoreline access, among many other things.Why not then also include a social interest in roaming, Ilgunas asks. This would serve community goals in public health and recreation, and in Scotland it has even helped private property owners by helping to reduce vandalism and littering. The most important issue is how to make sure that people act responsibly on private lands, respecting privacy and the economic value of the lands they cross.Americans reading this have probably thought of a number of objections to this idea already. Ilgunas received many such reactions when he published an article in the NYT about the right to roam, and he spends a chapter responding to those.The book is written in a lively and accessible style, drawing on the research of a number of legal scholars as well as from Ilgunas’ experiences as a long-distance hiker. Whether you agree or disagree with him, you’ll find his argument thought-provoking. You’ll also learn something more generally about property rights.

Informative read, packed with conservation and public land issues in other countries similar to ours. Most of all, I really liked the history on how the US became so concerned with private property, to the point where we don't even challenge the notion of what is public and what is private, and if the average person has any rights when it comes to private property. I think this is a good introduction into challenging many of the norms we assume about trespassing, and what we can do to free up some of the land for public enjoyment.

Love this guys style and I love his books! This one is a great read pack full of great info and an easy to get through.

One of my favorite things about my time in the UK was the ability and freedom to walk, even on people's property and farms. It seemed like every field had a kissing gate for people to roam and explore. I love Mr. Ilgunas' spirit of adventure and he gives me hope that this could become a norm in America. Here's to hope!

Ken is one of the great outdoor writers of our time. HIs notion of more access to private lands is a good one. Early in the book he seems to ask the question, "Do we need fences?" But, as he acknowledges, even "right to roam" countries such as England still have fences & hedges to separate and delineate property. But they also allow public recreational access through a vast network of footpaths and kissing gates. It is a delightful notion that seems to work in many other developed nations.A good place to try out a similar system in the United States would be along the Great Plains Trail. (See recent article by Ken Ilgunas in Backpacker Magazine.) It would help to defray the problem of so much public land along the Great Plains Trail route.Anyway, thanks for the wonderful book, Ken!!

I really like this author and loved his first 2 books. I couldn't get past a couple of chapters in this one. It's like reading a technical manual. I skipped ahead to see if there was anything of interest to me, but nope. If you're a nerd for facts this is probably for you. I got it in hopes it was full of the kind of adventure that the other books had. Not my thing.

Not bad and great for first timers going out on their own and need to learn to cook. You "get what you pay for" as far as quality and taste from these recipes.

I'm a single guy. I love to eat. I hate to cook. These recipes are (for the most part) easy, tasty and only require a few ingredients. For the most part all of the ingredients are readily available. Not sure what "Caponata" (canned "eggplant appetizer") is or where I'd get it, but the rest of the ingredients should be in any reasonably well stocked grocery store. For lazy, hungry, single folks this one is a keeper!

I bought this book for my son who is 19 and is always walking in the house and asking what is there to eat and if there is nothing immediately there, he'll run off to McDonalds or gripe about starving. I told him one day, "son, you have to figure out at least 5 or 6 things you can cook so you can be independent one day". I found this book on Amazon and bought it at first as kind of a joke of our conversation. I gave it to him for Christmas and he actually loved it! He's made 2 or 3 things already and they are very good! I love this book, because men are very visual and don't want to read instructions. It has pictures of exactly what you need and the steps to cook it are simple and straight forward. If you have a bachelor or young man in your life that needs some nudging to learn some sort of cooking on their own, this is a good book to give them. It would be a GREAT book to give to any college student, not just males, because most everything is very affordable, and the best thing, all is needed is a microwave.

If you are really in a hurry and a man a can a plan is just too time consuming for the moment then do like the series did and take to the microwave. Get things done even faster and in a pinch. Great last minute minimalist meal saver.

I have 8 sons. I discovered these book back in 2006. And have given them to all the bachelors in the family. There awesome. Love the picture book style and indestructible book it’s self. A survival must I think.

Great format. The books can be wiped off if food gets on them. This is the second title In this series that I have purchased for my grandson. He loves them. They are easy to follow, uncomplicated and require very little time.

This is a great little book for a graduation present - particularly for a boy. I give it with the ingredients for one of the recipes. So far, has been well-received.

I'm 62 years old. Kids are raised and gone. Bought this for my son who hates to cook ("too much trouble")...but I LOVE IT!! The recipes are actually very good, and beyond simple! LOL, repurchased the series of 3 for myself!

It may not be the Sybex book..but it's got nicely set up chapters that someone new to VBA programming can actually read and understand. I found new tricks in the 1st 3 chapters I could employ right away.

A long time ago I bought this book and it was brilliant. I referred to it a lot for various projects I did and always found what I needed. I lost it and missed it sorely since. No bookshop stocked it anymore and there was nothing to replace it. Funny to think about it now ten years later. I just saw it again by accident now and remembered the love affair I had with it. It was a true companion and a dear friend. How could I ever loose it. Strangely, when I first bought it somebody stole my bag with the book in it. The thief tried to return it to the bookshop for a refund. Because I paid with a switch card, he wasn't getting the money and just run off and I got the book back. I don't know how I lost it. It's like a dear friend from the past and just seeing the picture again fills me with warm feelings. It was the best friend I had at that time and like a true friend helped me out of a lot of tight spots. It really did ... or should I say he.

I have some experience with Microsoft Access. However, most of the applications I developed were created using the wizards, creating basic applications, with basic forms, basic queries, and basic reports. Then I needed to create some utilities and more complex applications in Access that required the programming of modules. I needed to learn this fast. I already had 3 books on Access97, including the Access Bible. I spent hours in bookstores to find what these books didn't tell me. The last thing I needed was another book on Access that would give me all the information I alredy knew. When I opened this book I found what I needed. I believe the evaluation of this book depends on what you're looking for. This is not a book for beginners. For me it was just right so I give it 5 stars.

This is the book I refer to when I am stuck. Very well laid out. You should have this book in your library and keep it handy cause you will be using it.

I received my copy of this book a few days ago, and I love it!! I can't wait to start coloring it, but I have a few projects ahead of it. You won't be disappointed 😍 Update - I just finished three pages, and I used pan pastels on everything except her eyes, lips and nails

I love this book it includes 3 of my favorite things grayscale, Alena lazareva artwork and fashion. I love to color clothes and people. Let's me get creative. I like ve her art and the people on this book. I have recieved this a few hours ago and colored a few so far and I'm so happy with this book. As always it is on one sided paper and is very high quality I can't wai till she comes out with another one. I really enjoy this kind of art and I hope you enjoy this one too. But you should also check out her other books. Funny animals and fantasy kingdom. She has 6 in total and I love them all

I ordered these books with the assumption that they'd be "just another" fashion book. I was wrong!!! These are some of the most beautifully drawn designs I've seen thus far!The grayscale makes almost every color pop off the page and adds even more depth to the beauty of the image. Kudos not only to the book but to the extremely talented artist!!!If you are looking for a true beauty in a fashion coloring book....this is it!!!

The pictures in this book are very pretty and feminine with lots of dresses and lace. They are very clear and realistic. I use the Grayscale coloring books to teach my self how to shade with coloring pencils. The shading is already there for you to follow, and I find this a fun way to teach myself how to further my skills as an artist.

Love all Alena Lazareva books. If you enjoy beautiful drawings, women, fantasy and cartoons you'll love her books. Greyscales are light not so dark which I especially love.

This is another of Alena Lazareva grayscale coloring book. Its wonderful to color. Each is unique. The paper quality is good and so is the grayscale. Not so dark that it is hard to color. I used colored pencils for my medium. gel pens for accents.

This is a great Grayscale coloring book. Every picture is wonderful. I have colored a lot of them so far and got compliments on them. Would recommend this book !!
