Very helpful.An additional item, after the visit -Some shows are written up (elsewhere) as Wonderful, positive, positive...We checked the discussions on TripAdvisor and all seemed promising for our daughter's birthday celebration.Yes, the music was expertly performed, true to the originals.Oh - the performance in between - utter raunch - we left.Re-reviewing the reviews - there were 1 in 20-30 warning you off.Pay attention - standards aren't.

This book has really good information that I haven't seen anywhere else. Vegas is not a typical kid destination so I felt like I needed some assistance. This book gives great ideas for activities and sight seeing. It gives very specific information about entertainment and where kids are and are not allowed. This one is a must read for parents traveling with kids to Vegas. My only concern is that it was published in 2009. It does list the ESPN Zone as an attraction and I'm pretty sure they closed the entire chain several years ago. I'm a little concerned that the things I've planned may be closed because the book is 2 years old. Great information, updated would be better.

Bought this book when planning a family vacation with my then 7 & 8 year old children. People were amazed at the number of things we did in Las Vegas that was GREAT family fun. A year later the kids still say it was their best vacation. Also includes helpful information about things to do outside of Las Vegas. Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam, Death Valley, the Grand Canyon, Rhyolite (ghost town) were all things we enjoyed and all were a short drive away. Las Vegas can be a great base camp for many family oriented activities.

I read the reviews before purchasing this book and it is true that there is quite a bit of information that is out-of-date. Frommers should update it, or offer some updates online. However, globally, the book helps answer questions for parents traveling with kids to Las Vegas. I would say it falls VERY short on the vacation rental section, and I think more and more families are renting houses with private pools and spending their days on the strip or at other attractions and economizing and relaxing at home. Having a family stay on the strip is cramped and expensive. I did like the sections of the book that had ideas related to age groups, which is very helpful. I wish there were more guide books on the market for this topic - even one more would help! And for those going to Las Vegas soon, the Wet N Wild waterpark is opening May 2013 which is yet another option for family fun.

Too much information is not updated (nor were the index pages checked)! There were no talking camels at Luxor. There was no Pink Pony Cafe at Circus, Circus. There was no desert storm at the souvenir store at Showcase Mall. There was no Trojan Horse and no FAO Schwarz store at Caesar's Palace. The smoke at Circus, Circus was so bad we could not use the midway or several of the restaurants.Children have short attention spans and tire easily. With that in mind, it would have been helpful to know the location of attractions inside the huge hotel/casino complexes. Some complexes have few bathrooms or those that are not easily spotted.Have these editors really traveled with children?

Loaded with helpful info for planning a family trip. Maps, phone numbers, drive times, etc.If it had pictures I would have given it a 5.

This book really helped us decide what to do in Las Vegas. We do not gamble so we wanted "other" things to do. What we found is Las Vegas is not "family" friendly and you have to take your children into the gaming areas of most casinos to see the attractions. The book did offer suggestions that we did find helpful. Like how to avoid certain crowds and what shows are appropriate for kids. Much better than some of the other books out there.

I really liked the book, and the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because a good part of the book talks about hotel accomadations and booking flights, etc. and I had already done that by the time I bought the book. So half of the book was of no use to me, but the book had good recommendations.

The story was great fun and informative. I hate to rate the story lower because my kindle issues but reading the story on kindle was very frustrating. I am on an iPad mini and the text was so small I got a headache from reading it to my son. I was not able to orient the book the tall way to see the pictures and text larger and more clearly. It was stuck in landscape mode. I also couldn't adjust text size. This was not only frustrating and difficult for me but made it less accessible for my visually impaired son. He needs large pictures and text to enjoy a story fully. There should be info or warnings on features of kindle books if the ability of changing orientation and text size isn't standard.

I love this series. This is the second book we have bought for our grandkids so they could see where their Nana and Papa go on trips. We live in Cairo and this book is accurate, cute and the story is engaging.

I hadn't heard of this series. My kids loved this story. Can't wait to see some other ones. Great way to teach kids about different places around the world.

This series is fantastic. I started it for my 4 year old neighbor, some for her birthday, Halloween (Greece because she was a greek goddess), some at Christmas, and then one on Valentine's day. When she opened her present her eyes lit up. Her mom says she loves to learn and go on adventures with Bella & Harry. Will be purchasing the rest of the series for her!

Bought this sweet little book for 3 year old grandaughter who loves to read about the sphinx, pyramids, etc. she wanted a book about Egypt, and loved it.

Giving it 4 stars for the idea and concept. I wish there were more informational.

This was bought for a 9 year old granddaughter for her birthday. She loves the adventures of Bella and Harry. The books are well written and pictures are colors. She even asked for this one because she didn't know anything about Cairo and wanted to learn about it.

My eight-year-old daughter and I have been following the exploits of Chihuahua pup Bella and her younger brother Harry for some time now and this is Book Four in their adventures. This time, the adventurous siblings visit Egypt, together with their human family. The books in the series do a wonderful job of introducing children to the delights of travel, learning about other cultures, and experiencing the wonders of the world at large.In "Let's Visit Cairo!", Bella and Harry begin the Egyptian tour by visiting the Pyramids of Giza which are over 4,500 years old. As they trek through the desert, Harry learns about camels and how they store their fat, which enables them to go for long periods of time without food. They then visit the Great Sphinx and adorable little Harry daydreams about becoming a pharaoh! The illustration depicting Harry in pharaoh garb is really cute and will have children exclaiming out loud. The siblings travel to other places of interest such as The Museum of Antiquities where they learn about mummies and King Tut before they go off to explore the Valley of the Kings located in Luxor, Egypt. Here the siblings learn about the great pharaoh Ramesses II or Ramesses the Great and what hieroglyphics are.The siblings also learn other things about Egyptian culture such as the food and some common phrases in Arabic. The accompanying illustrations provide young readers with a colorful portrait of this exotic land of pharaohs and will inspire young children to learn more about Egypt, its history, and its customs. My daughter and I look forward to reading more about Bella and Harry's global adventures!

I had James Flora's Grandpa's Ghost Stories when I was a little girl, and when I went to search for it so my daughter could enjoy it as well, I found Grandpa's Witched Up Christmas. It is every bit as delightful and fun as the other book...worth the expensive price, as the illustrations are so unique and detailed.

I have loved this book for years. I use to read it to my students, and now I read it to my grandchildren. The story has a very fun twist to it.

My father wrote 13 children’s books and was an amazing illustrator and it’s nice to see that his work lives on through Amazon.

An overview of horror movies from "Night of the Living Dead" (1968) and covering most of the main horror movies from the 1960s and 70s. He discusses "Rosemary's Baby", "Carrie", "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Last House on the Left", "Halloween" and the directors and writers behind them. This is well-written, VERY entertaining and (at 238 pages)short. Some of the stories I knew but Zinoman tells them in such an entertaining fashion I didn't mind reading them again. What's very interesting is how it chronicles the directors early lives to see what influenced them. It also gets into their fights and accusations against each other. I LOVED reading this.HOWEVER I do have a few minor complaints. He complains about the end of the movie "Psycho" saying we didn't need an explanation. I disagree. He also complains about Hitchcock keeping it in. Hitchcock didn't write "Psycho"--Robert Bloch did. Blame him. I also disagree with his views on "Carrie". While I don't disagree that it's an important movie calling it operatic is a little bit ridiculous. I think that chapter was a little weak. And also, Stephen KIng DOESN'T like the character of Carrie and it comes through loud and clear in the book. Zinoman seems to think he does. Still, these are small complaints. The rest of the book is just great! One last complaint--it was too short! I wanted it to keep going. I'd love to see what Zinoman thinks of the "Scream" films (which he mentions only in passing) and the "Friday the 13th" series (which he doesn't mention at all!). Basically this is a must-read for all horror fans--and all NON-horror fans!

"Shock Value" reminded me a lot of Stephen King's "Danse Macbre", or at least the parts about film (King's book covers horror from 1950 to 1980; film, fiction, television, etc., not just film as "Shock Value" does). Even though both works cover the same era, many of the same directors and films, I liked the King book better. There's something lacking in Zinoman's book, but I can't put my finger on it. I think part of it comes from the fact that King saw many of the films both he and Zinoman talk about (Night of the Living Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Alien, Halloween, etc.) in the theater when they first came out, while Zinoman did not. The book goes into what influenced the movies in terms of society, culture, events, etc., of the time, which would be things King lived through and Zinoman just read about. King was writing about these things first hand; what was happening at the time in society, the reaction to the movies, etc., and Zinoman wasn't. And I think that's a key distinction. King was writing an informal history of horror, while Zinoman was trying to write a fairly serious work on it, both of them succeed, but King's result it better, I feel.Good book, and definitely worth reading if you're a horror fan, but falls flat in places.

This is a well written, "behind-the-scenes" history of the rise of horror cinema.I'll admit that I never really "got" slasher flicks, or even enjoyed them much, until this book provided additional perspective. I'd always been more interested in plot-heavy, suspenseful style horror - but learning the history behind the rise of the genre, and its creators, changed that.If you're a fan of horror films of any time, are a film buff, or enjoy the history of pop-culture/film, I'd recommend the book.

First of all, I will say if you like horror films, I wholeheartedly recommend this book. There is too little written on the subject, and given that, I was delighted to find this book, and overall it did not disappoint.Mr. Zinoman is a good writer, and within the areas that he chooses to focus, he has done a good deal of research and provides the reader with interesting insights.My main complaint would be that there was not enough. The book covers the initial films of Craven, Carpenter, De Palma, Friedkin, Polanski, Romero and Hooper to a good deal of depth. But he ignores much, if not all, of the later works of these artists. I would have liked to have heard much more about how these directors evolved. In some cases, like Hooper or Romero, where there careers sort of flamed out (I know Romero fans won't agree, but how many zombie moves can one man make?), but many of them remained vital for many years. I was especially disappointed that there was not more coverage of Body Double and the Thing. These are two of the finest thriller/horror movies ever made IMO, and were fairly solidly within the time period covered by the book, yet were basically left out for some reason (I'm guessing time limitations, as the whole book though well done does feel a bit rushed). Maybe part two.That aside, I did thoroughly enjoy reading this. Hopefully there will be more like it!

A great read about the history of horror movies! Reading this book, I also saw the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" movie (mentioned in this book). I will never sleep again.

I bought this for my husband. He's a huge fan of Marvel and the Winter soldier in particular. He wanted the softcover comic originally. However we could find that and found this instead. This not only has the comics that he wanted but he has extra behind the scene information that he did not know before. And trust me he knows so much about Marvel and the Winter soldier... this is just amazing. This is a great gift for anyone who loves comics Capt. America or the Winter soldier. I highly recommend this for everyone!!

The Winter Soldier was the first part of a trilogy by Ed Brubaker. At the heart of the story is Russian businessman Alexander Lukin, the Red Skull, Captain America, Sharon Carter, and Bucky Barnes the Winter Soldier.Things start with Lukin acquiring the Cosmic Cube by using Barnes to assassinate the Red Skull. Lukin thinks the cube will allow him to dominate the world economy, but the cube never does all that it master wants. At the same time, Cap finds out his former comrade in arms is alive (he thought Barnes died in World War II), and becomes obsessed with finding his friend and bringing him back from being the Winter Soldier, an assassin used by the Soviet Union during the Cold War.The story is fast paced and exciting. Ed Brubaker’s writing style is short and direct and pushing things along with a mix of intrigue and action. Some of the artwork is lackluster, but the story is good enough to overcome those shortcomings.

I had never read CA before this, not even in when I was a kid (way the heck back when), but picked this up after finishing Brubaker's wonderful Gotham Central (for the other guys), which I loved. I was not disappointed.Through osmosis, and the movies, I know a bit about CA, but though I enjoyed those movies, it still didn't strike me to pick up the books until I was looking for more Brubaker. I am pleased to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this collection - the story is taut, dramatic and moves at a good clip while providing a great deal of back story that allowed a reader, coming to the character in the books for the first time, to find footing. It is well plotted, has interesting dialog and some genuine heart to it. The artwork is dynamic and expressive and if not particularly innovative or distinctive, it is certainly more than simply functional - it fits the story very well.I am now on for the ride and moving on to Vol 2 (Red Menace) and will stay on board until it wanes or ends. Not great, maybe, but certainly very good.

I was originally interested in the Winter Soldier character due to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and wanted to learn more about him. This is the best place to start in my opinion. It gives backstory on how Bucky became the Winter Soldier as well as to how he and Cap became acquainted. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to learn more about Bucky Barnes or just want to follow Captain America. While Bucky may have been a large part of the book, he is not the main focus and does not take over the plot. They did a great job of adding enough of other characters. Iron Man’s appearance seemed a bit random but it was good nonetheless!

Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting's legendary run begins here. With The Winter Soldier, they tackled the one story that we'd been told for decades could never be told and they did it with style. This book inspired the wonderful Captain America Winter Soldier movie and kicks off an amazing run of stories featuring Steve Rogers and a huge cast of characters. Highest possible recommendation. This is a great read.

Coming into this book, I had already seen the movie and loved it. This was also my first experience reading any sort of comic books. I love the Marvel movie universe and I'd been wanting to start reading the comics for a while, but the sheer volume of comics (and characters) is a little overwhelming. I wasn't sure where to begin. A friend gave me some advice and told me to start with Ed Brubaker's Captain America: Winter Soldier, and I am so thankful that he suggested I start here. Not only did this book live up to my expectations, but it far surpassed them. The writing is sharp and clever, and it nails you right in the heart. The Captain's flashback scenes make the emotional impact even more powerful, and I could not put this book down. After finishing it, I'm seriously glad I had already ordered and received Red Menace because I wanted to jump right into the next book in the series. I highly recommend this title to anyone and everyone. It was great.

My Captain America re-read continues with "Two Americas" by Brubaker, Ross, Guice, & Magyar. Another good outing of Cap Bucky and the Falcon as they go up against the insane Captain America from the 1950's who replaced Steve while he was in deep freeze and believed to be dead. This Cap is completely bonkers and teams up with the Watchdogs to "teach America a lesson." The first lesson is blowing up the Hoover Dam. Good stuff from Marvel. Highly recommended.

Brubaker's run on Captain America is legendary, and I'm just now jumping into it. Loving the story so far with this trade. Love how he brings the Winter Soldier in. Can't wait to read the next one.
